Now I have searched but got confused very quickly.

I currently have a SOG Trident
and a MOD CQD Mark I, which I love by the way. I just need to know what you recommend for oiling the folding mechanism (if that is what it is called if you haven't guessed kinda of a beginner at this whole thing) and also for general cleaning of the blades.

Mineral oil, if you ever plan on letting the knife touch food. You can find it at the drug store near the laxatives.

On occasion I might use Militec-1. Benchmade used to recommend it for their folders. Now they have their own proprietary Blue Lube they recommend. Militec is not food safe.

Not WD-40, unless it's all you have. WD-40 was never meant to be a lube. You can use it to clean your knife, but afterwards you'll still need to lube with something else.

Unless you are going to prepare food with it, any light oil will do.
Come to think of it, I have cut lots of food with my knives and the oil (whatever's handy) hasn't hurt me yet!

Name of oil? Mineral Oil, WD-40 what?

I use 3-in-one for lubricating. Sewing machine oil works good too.

I use WD-40 for cleaning sometimes, but not for lubricating. Once the solvent evaporates, the remaining "oil" is too viscous to be a good lubricant.
