Maybe somebody has talked about this already, I don't know and I'm too lazy to look into it! Anyway just a little trick I do when ever I know I'm going to be in wet or humid conditions. All my blades are stripped so what I do is take some of my Papps bow string wax and I rub it all around and into the cracks where the scales meat the tang. I pack it in real good and I use A toothpick if I have to for the tight spots like at the top of the handle where the blade starts. It's a bit messy at first but after your done just wipe it down and you have a water tight seal. I have been doing this with both my stock and micarta scales for a long time and it works great with no side effects.

I'll have to try that the next time I go out, good thing I have a surplus of bowstring wax

good idea, I put some superglue around that area in some of my knives, tried marine goop too (it works well if your careful) like the idea of the bowstring wax, my wax is natural which would obviously be better for food prep than goop or glue.

johnson's paste wax works pretty well as a water repllant coating, too.
maybe not the most food-safe option around, but it works and hasn't killed me yet.

I've never tried bow string wax but bee's wax works great. I keep a couple of pucks in my B.O.B. just in case the zombies bring squirt guns.

Hahaha I just got a visual! The wax is also good for field dressing, obviously. :D
