I like the spring snare and its variations, the figure four and its variations, and varios simple snares such as the squirrel pole. Fishing baskets are fun to make, but they are kind of difficult.

Here's a link to a free-to-download book. In it, there are many traps and trap triggers. The book is also available to buy in hard copy. Be careful, if you buy, because, apparently, there is one version without illustrations!

I love to practice making new traps as a way to improve my skills but truth be told for practical purposes there are a few that will do the bulk of the effective catching for you..most of them are considered classics in the "survival community" among them are the fig. 4 deadfall, the Paiute deadfall. your basic twitch up snare, and the "roller spring snare.
if you wanted to get fancy you could add THe split stick deadfall,, the baited spring leg snare, and the toggle and bait release snare.. but in all honesty, imho if you just practice the first 4 untill you can make them and set them in your sleep you'd be well off.
