Could one just use one of those scotchbrite type wheels for a dremel to get the coating off?

Im leery of using paint stripper if I dont have to.

That could possibly work. Is there a reason you don't want to use the stripper? I'd say you're more likely to mess with the blade using the dremel.

God bless,
Adam

I wouldn't recommend it, you'll probably gouge the blade but if your careful and keep it moving you might be able to get away with it

You can do that but it is a pain. Use the stripper, it is fun to watching that coating bubble.

Leery about stripper? That's the best and easiest way to do it. Get the gel or spray kind. Brush or spray it on, wrap the knife in tin foil, leave it for 30 mins or so, go out there and rinse it off. Done. No scratching of the blade or etchings, etc.

Does it matter if the stripping spray or gel get all over the handles? Also, which brand of stripping spray or gel is recommended?

I would definitely not get stripper on the scales of a knife if that's what you mean. The handle of the Izula would be fine, but no scales.

This is the brand stripper I use. You can get a spray can at Wal-Mart for about $6. Can do lots of blades/projects with it. Or you can get it in the cans like this in liquid or gel form, I'd go with the gel.

i used a spray on gel stripper from walmart. i think it was like $5 for the bottle. spray it on, let sit for 20 minutes or so, and use a rag to wipe off the paint. there will be some spots that didnt come up, so you just apply a little more stripper and wait
