Anybody have any Sinatra in the ol' Ipod? I'm thinking about downloading some. The guy could flat out sing, that's fer shure. What songs do y'all recommend? I don't think I'll do a whole album. The only thing I'm really familiar with is "fly me to the moon" and that song they play at Yankee Stadium after a win. My kinda town or whatever it is.

Recommendations? Looking for something I can wear a fedora with a feather in it and smoke a Havana while listening to. Thanks much.

His earliest work was his best.

People who have only heard "Strangers in the Night" and later recordings, or even worse only "My Way," have no idea what he was capable of in his prime.

+1

Witchcraft, All the Way, The Tender Trap, 3 Coins in the Fountain, Young at Heart, Hey Jealous Lover, and I Love Paris are some of my favorites from the "Way Back Machine" (even though these are from the 50s). I like his version of Nature Boy but feel Nat King Cole did it better..... Never forget having to learn High Hopes for one of our school plays

I'm sure Mr Callahan is familar with Married with Children's Love and Marriage theme also. That's Ol' Blue Eyes too.

I grew up on Sinatra - probably the first songs I ever heard.

Any songs from "The Reprise Collection."

Also, "Sinatra at the Sands" with the Count Basie Orchestra. A live performance, in Las Vegas, I believe. It's a fun album to listen to because you aren't just listening to Frank sing, you get to hear him interacting with the audience.

Sinatra at the Sands:

Come Fly with Me
I've Got a Crush on You
I've Got You Under My Skin
The Shadow of Your Smile
Street of Dreams
One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)
Fly Me to the Moon
The Tea Break (monologue) very funny!
You Make Me Feel so Young
All of Me (Instrumental)
The September of My Years
Luck Be a Lady
Get Me to the Church on Time
It was a Very Good Year
Don't Worry 'Bout Me
Makin' Whoopee (Instrumental)
Where or When
Angel Eyes
My Kind of Time
A Few Last Words (Instrumental)
My Kind of Town (reprise)

I like to listen to Jonathan Schwartz on WNYC FM 93.9 on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4:00 PM (Eastern Time). He plays a lot of Sinatra and others from that era. You can listen online at http://www.wnyc.org/

Geez..... there are so many great songs and great albums.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up buying Nothing but the Best - the Frank Sinatra Collection Remastered because it covers so much of his career and even as Sinatra-ignorant as I am, I recognized a fair amount of the songs on it. But it was close. I almost went with one of the live albums. Sinatra at the Sands was a good recommendation and I may indeed get it in the future. A lot of the same songs are on that one. Waiting for the download now.

The song It was a Very Good Year was on the Sopranos. While the song was playing the camera panned in and out of the lives of the characters of the show as they went about their daily lives. It was a neato piece of filmmaking.

Sirius has a channel devoted to Sinatra (and other crooners) called Siriusly Sinatra. I've never listened to it but have heard that its on there.

Don't forget the rest of The Rat Pack. Dean and Sammy made a great addition with Frank on stage.

If you can find it, The Rat Pack: 56 Great Songs from the Kings of Cool is a great CD!
