Should I buy a "Slicer" or the "Butcher Knife" from "Old Hickory"? The Slicer is only $9.97 (same source as my "Sticker). The "Butcher Knife" costs nearly twice as much. Which will serve me better in the kitchen? Which will be more useful?

Ideas?

Like last time, you would benefit from shopping around for the best price on the butcher knife. So price difference doesn't need to be such an important factor. They're both large knives. I think the slicer may be a bit longer. The pointy profile of the slicer may have a wider range of uses.

You've got me looking at these knives now. lol

Ha haaaaa! The Old Hickory 1095 Carbon Steel has you in it's power! Resistance is futile! Inexpensive, as sharp as they come, long-lived, how can you resist?

Give in, give in! :D

Why not get both at once and save on shipping?

I don't see the black knives at flea markets and estate sales like I used to.

By the way, Captain, you're not interested in the Green Rivers? Two of the sites I suggested for sheathes have the blades, and one has them with handles and/or in a kit, perhaps including sheath. I forget.

I am in a lot of lumber yards with hardware stores (I sell building materials). Old Hickory knives are in stock at many of the non-chain stores - look around, you may find them locally and save the shipping. I saw a fair number of Old Hickory knives (and Lodge cast iron) in a hardware store this week; the biggest two knives in your picture were about $12 each. OH

I missed your suggestions. I found a sheath, but it would cost twice as much as the knife! I'll be using the .30 Carbine primarily for small game. (I usually use my Rossi .22 pump, but it is in storage). Some .30 FMJ will kill rabbits with ease.

My message is there, though, in visitor messages in your profile, or I'm really confused. I can't repeat it here because they're all non-participating dealers.
Looks like you posted right after me so mine was never a new message.

I did wind up ordering the 7" Butcher Knife. It should perform well in the kitchen. (It beats the heck out of the stainless steel trash knives that are in the kitchen today). I am tired of using dull knives everyone "bungs up" and no one sharpens but me.

Believe me, it winds up being a pain in the a... neck.
