Since I joined? BM 760, 710, and Spyderhawk off the forums. A Byrd Meadowlark, Cara Cara, and a Kershaw Talon from online and B&M. I've been exercising restraint :p ... or I'm poor. Y'know, whichever.

I honestly cannot count how many knives I've bought since coming to BFC 10 years ago.

Mine have come and gone. I can't remember how many knives I've bought, sold, traded, or given away here and on my, um, other three knife forums and two gun forums.

I might have a problem.

Think this is post 18 or so.

Spyderco Delica
Scrap Yard Scrapper 5
Swamp Rat RatManDu (on order)
Kershaw SpeedForm (on Preorder)

Looking at:
Paper wheel sharpening kit
Variable speed buffer
Kershaw Leek (composite blade)
Lots of others that I can't afford. In the big picture though....While there's a bunch of beautiful knives here...I really don't think I could bring myself to carry and possibly use a knife that costs 500 - 1K. While nice to look at and show off, seems to me like a waste of money. Well, not really a waste...but it could be better spent.

Good GOD man. And when did you start knifemaking?

I had seen Becker blades (and even briefly considered a BK-9 as a gift for my son last year) but I hadn't really *seen* them - know what I mean?

I've always been a Ka-Bar and SAK fan and I suppose the forums have exacerbated that.

Since joining I've purchased:
Becker BK-11 (Father's day gift to me)
Becker BK-2 (the ideal outdoor knife, IMO)
Ka-Bar Dozier (folding thumb notch - just had to have a nice one hand folder)
SAK Huntsman (wanted this knife for a while but needed the forum to point me to the exact right model).

The other forum got me started, but this one has led me to:
D'Allara (sold now, but loved it)
Tenascious
Byrd Robin
BM Grip 555HG
and several traditionals, including a GEC Barlow for $100.

But, the forum has also given back in that I have won more than my share of giveaways.

I'd call us just about even when you throw in the enjoyment factor.

I have to agree with that. As good as they look, the craftsmanship that goes into them, I think I'd still rather have 10 knives that cost $100 each, or 5 knives that cost $200 each, keep some for me, give the others to my 3 boys.

I was like that with guns for a while. Had to be more of the upper tier. I'd go out deer hunting in the next county with a $1000-$1500 gun wearing a $600 scope. Then I started in on customization: aftermarket stocks, custom barrels, etc. They looked good. They were shooting machines. Then one day I came to the realization that I killed more deer and enjoyed hunting more with the "cheap" guns I used to use. Why? I paid more attention to the hunting and wasn't so worried about tearing up something that I'd spent big money on.

I love inexpensive knives and guns as tools. I can honestly say that I've very rarely had any quality factory knife fail me in any way. Matter of fact the only ones I can think of are a couple of Gerber multi-tools (China) and a Buck Fieldmate that broke in half while batoning a log.
