Since the Swick is a neck knife, and intended to be worn long hours...

and since it is likely to be worn at various activities that might get it sweaty, or submerged...

shouldn't there be a model available in H-1 steel?

I wear mine in the shower, and after the first day, I took it out later on and found some smudges of rust on it! Caught in time, they did not stain the knife. I had become used to my CRKT "Neck Peck" which never rusted from daily being wet.

I also wear my neck knives when I go kayaking or swimming in seawater. I never worried about a $20-some-odd Neck Peck, but a knife like the Swick that cost me about $80 incl. shipping? I hesitate to take that into the ocean with me...

What about it? An H-1 Swick? Wouldn't you go for that?

::Calmly begins reading about a favorite neck knife, eyes bug when reads about rust, quickly checks Swick has been wearing nearly nonstop since it was released (not in the shower though, but definately in daily sweating situations)...is relieved to find no discernable rust:: You had me worried there Peaceful. Although I love my stonewashed s30v Swick, I'd love to see a production run in H1...it only makes sense as you have already outlined. A necker is going to be against the skin more than most knives so it should really be H1 rustproof!

There has been talk of a Rescue Swick in H1. Apparently Spyderco is still pondering whether to put the Swick into full production.

IF(I'm hoping it's more of when) the SWICK reachs normal production, I believe it is intended to have an H-1 blade.

And as Spyerknut mentioned, there's also the potential Rescue SWICK as well.

YES. H1 is a great idea! I carried my SPOTS in all kinds of conditions and did a lot of sweating. I lubricate my current EDCs constantly, so i wasn't too concerned about rust, but the H1 idea is really good.

The "big" market has not jumped all over the Swick. We still have quite a few left and we didn't make very many. All of our dealers and distributors world-wide have been told about it and we've sent out pics.

I think that "neckers" are more popular with knife nuts than the general market.

We're still hidin' & watchin'.

Sal,
Thank you for your earnest efforts to please us even though we are, apparently, a small segment of your customer base. We do certainly appreciate it.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had a rush of happy reception of the Swick -- that actually astonishes me! Woulda thought people would indeed jump all over it.

I really do hope you find cause to come out with an H-1 Swick version, for the reasons I stated at the thread start.

Fixed-blade neck knives (skeletonized, with no handle scales) are some of my very favorite knives. I would love to see a larger variety of them coming from Spyderco, particularly if you could make a scaled-down, ultralightweight that is smaller and significantly less expensive than the Swick. (Sort of like how I picked up a few Neck Pecks, I would pick up several lightweight Spyderco neckers.) Just whatever you do, please don't make 'em chisel ground, and don't make 'em recurved.

[/end personal-selfish wish indulgence post] :p
