Some friends from Tahoe will be going to Singapore
starting Oct. 5th , Bangkok the 12th, and Hong Kong the 17th, to Honolulu the 24th. Suggestions about where to go and what to see welcomed from anyone willing to share.

Gave him your phone # and how to get to the forums, Unc. He may or may not call. ( I didn't tell him about the sabers yet - just the Tarwar and Katana. He just has the two 15" AK's. )

Post on the forum. We have forumites in all places. My advice is take a guided temple tour in Bangkok. That's a can't miss tour. In Hong Kong take a harbor dinner cruise and have lunch at the Furama and go to the night market. In Singapore don't spit on the street or chew gum.

...your friends might enjoy visiting Boat Quay. It is a section of river front with multiple ethnic restaurants right next to one another, all with outside dining right on the river. Water taxis, leaving from Boat Quay, also give very reasonably priced tours. Of course, no trip to Boat Quay would be complete without a stop to enjoy the live blues music at Harry's American Bar. OK, it's "touristy" but it's fun. ;)

I have two suggestions for Singapore. If your friends like baseball it can be fun to watch a cricket match on the national grounds. They can get locals to explain what's going on. You can watch for an hour or so in the morning before it gets too hot, then go do other stuff before dropping back in in the late afternoon. The match will still be going on, and the score will be something like 79-48.

My other suggestion is, eat. Lots. Singapore is made up of three main ethnic groups: Chinese, Malay, and South Indian. All three are reknowned for good cookin. It's cheapest and most fun to eat in the market stalls. And the boat quay Brian mentioned is a don't-miss place to eat skewers of satay once it cools off at night.

Additional: Don't simply throw away your cigerate but!

BTW - Rusty! It might be enjoyable for your friends to go to Pulau Sentosa (ie. Sentosa Island) via cable car.

Fortunately, when I was last there at least, there were ample receptacles almost everywhere, atop street trash cans.
