Before you say Zebra H502- don't.

Need: single AA headlamp
Flood throw
simple interface
price under 50.00

I need to buy multiples for family members here and overseas(hence the AA- CR123 and AAA are pricey and hard to come by there- current is 220V so charges form here do not work there).

Light and highly water resistant are bonuses.

Fenix HL10 would be ideal if it were AA as a guide.

Thanks for any advice you might offer.

Fenix HL50 or Armytek Tiara should work prefectly. The Fenix is under 50 bucks. I will post a comparison review video from my channel when I get home. Both headlamps have a good mix of flood and throw.

Check out the Black Diamond 2016 Spot. 200 lumens and simple interface. IPX8 waterproofing. Flood, spot and red.

The Fenix HL50 is looking like my best choice, Thank you. Would be perfect if low setting was flood at 5 lumens but we cannot have it all, can we :)

Black Diamond uses AAA batts.

Thanks,
Bill

You might also want to check out the Tiara A1 ($48) as well. Sometimes it's hard to track down specs on lights that can accept more than one kind of battery, but it looks like it's capable of more lumens on high, and also has some very low light options.

I recently went through this myself, and ended up getting the Fenix HP15 UE. It's a little more expensive & takes 4xAA batteries, but I really wanted the option of a very bright high in case I don't have my primary flashlight handy, and a useful amount of light that would last all night long (14 hours in the winter) if need be. They make another version with basically the same performance that takes 1x18650, but I've pretty much standardized on using AA and AAA batteries in everything & didn't want to switch over yet.

Three AAA batteries required. It's an excellent headlamp though. Only 3.2 oz WITH batteries. My son uses the 2016 Spot (only $30 now at REI). I use the 2016 Cosmo (3.0 oz WITH batteries and only $22.39 now at REI). I can't see replacing either with anything else.

My bad for not seeing that requirement from the OP. The Spot is a great headlamp nonetheless.

I have 2 HL50s and they are great. That being said, I really like a Fenix Headband and whatever small light matches the batteries I am using.
