Single bevel edge on a kukri

I recently bout a kukri from Pakistan that had a very slight edge on it. I tried to put a decent edge on it with a file no luck then tried two different carbide and ceramic tool / knife sharpeners, no dice, then I tried a canoe file nothing. Finally in desperation I watch a video of a sushi chefs who got sent a sushi knife with zero edge on it he used a diamond bench sharpener and it took him over an hour but he put a beginning single bevel edge on it then refined said edge with a bunch of other sharpeners. So I figured hey either I’ll wreck the kukri or the diamond sharpener I have but.....maybe I’ll come out with a working edge. Well surprisingly it put a single bevel edge on it and I’m trying to carefully refine it now. Obviously I am a moron when it comes to metal working, but here is my question would a single bevel edge be effective at chopping “ stuff” considering a kukri is more of a blunt force tool vs a sushi knife which the guy was using? Or should I just catch really big fish and fillet them with my kukri?
