It came in Friday. Cleaned it up and oiled it good. Was a little stiff. Worked it probably about 50 times and it loosened up. Put a good arm hair shaving edge on it this morning. It is light. But feels real good in the hand. The blade does not sit completely center, but it does not rub the liner. Disappears like a peanut in the pocket. Worth the $40.

I received mine today and really like it also. Real quick looks shows great fit and finish on mine.

Hope to see more like it in the future. Tempted to order some of the other versions while they are still out there.

They are very sweet knives although I wish they had just one more blade (sheeps foot or wharncliffe). The fit and finish is really good. Here's some more pictures that may help you make up your mind about getting the other versions.

If I pull the trigger on another it will be the diamond wood version. I like the one blade set up, I find that I rarely use the second blade.

Thanks for the pic!

The Dymondwood is beautiful and just may be my favorite. I'm a little the opposite of you, I find I use the sheepsfoot blade on my stockman at least as much if not more than the clip blade. I never use the spey blade on the three blade ones though.

Would be neat if they made a short version with only the sheepfoots blade in it:D

Would be thin, short, light, and make us both happy:D

I think that would be great small design!

Thats about as simple as it can get... Yellow takes me back to when I was a youngen. Always had yellow Schrade Waldens and yellow Case knives among others...
I like it.I really like the time and thought Buck has put into the design of the blades on these slipjoints

They are nice looking knives. I cant decide, may want one for collector purpose only before they come out as the 302. I need more weight in my pocket, something that can be used for a doorstop(right 300:D)

I hope you guys know that you are contributing to the delinquincy of a senior citizen. I just ordered one of these dymondwood versions. Boy! I'd be all over a two blade jack configuration with a sheepsfoot or wharncliffe seconday.

I'll second (or third, or tenth) that!!! Seems like there's been quite a few folk sayin' just that, on various threads concerning these single-blade 301's.

I just got mine, in Dymondwood. The blade opens with just the right amount of effort and is sharp. It's not completely centered, but not touching anything. There is a gap in the liner that although small, was not what I was expecting. Light shows through. Works fine though. Good size.

GM,

Don't sharpen it......seems everyone else's has been near perfect. If you are willing for the trouble email Joe Houser and tell him. He most likely will go hand pick one and trade with you......they will want to see what you don't like also.........300Bucks

I hope I don't get flamed, but I have a comment.

I don't understand the single blade knife in this size. If I'm going to have a single blade, why not something with a lock, or a larger work knife?

If this knife was made with a sheepsfoot, or spey, or slear/pen, or any other second blade on the other end of a single back spring, I'd be on it in a heartbeat. I carried a 301 stockman from 1967 to the early 90's because it gave me a choice of blades to use. It got phased out for a 303 cadet, again giving me options. But to have just a single blade, sort of defeats the idea of a slip joint pocket knife, to me anyways. Even my little Case peanut gives me a second blade. Putting a second blade on this knife would add little or no bulk, yet give a lot more utility.

This knife needs a second blade. Right now it's only half done. Buck needs to finish it. If I want a small single blade knife from Buck, I'll get a 55.

Carl.

I know exactly what you mean jackknife, but for some strange reason. I have this soft spot for single blades. Especially yellow handle single blades.
But I am now where near the knife connoisseur some of the members here are. I just have this freakish fondness for yellow handle knives. And once I saw the post 300Bucks made on all four of the ones he got, well, I couldn't think of anything else until I got mine.
And I must say, It has not left my pocket yet.
I still blame 300...

Andy

I can handle the blame.....

Heres what I posted over in Traditional forum.....300

Well, I can understand the discussion and I guess I have to quit standing over in the shade beside the ball diamond........and go to the plate and swing a bat.

Since I started the Buck single blade posting here is my opinion on those. IN hand they are slim and trim, the finish of the protos was very hign which was nice but you might think a prototype would get some attention. GENERALLY, one blade CAN be enough on a knife the size of a 301 Buck. The next time you see them they will be called the 302.
What is Bucks market idea on this ? Only my guess, but the basic knife is already in production , just leave out some springs and blades and you got a slim lightweight knife that might be appealing to some folks. Made in America, etc., etc. They already produce a tiny two blade in the 305 and a small "Jackknife peanut" sized two blade 309. A single blade 303 would just be more hair splitting. Maybe they are thinking about dropping one of the small ones ? Who knows but the factory....Buck has made single blade slipjoints in past and several two bladed trappers.

As far as what is good utility, EDC, handy, meets the need,I can depend on, etc. I carry stockman but I very very seldom use the spey blade. I would like a 303 cadet to have two blades a clip and a thicker, strong sheepsfoot or warcliff. I use it to cut materials such as paper, gaskets, leather or art board that I place on a cutable surface and cut with the SF point. Anything that needs a strong POINT for quality cutting. Sometimes if you used a clip blade you would break off the point. So my ideal slipjoint is as slim as possible and since I would generally use only two blades that is what I would like. I never carry a knife smaller than a JK peanut. I have carried two blade trappers and big animal hunt with a 112 and a fixed blade.

What would be ideal is the basic 301 and 303 stockmen with one, two and three blades. You just buy which one you like. Heck throw in a leather punch also. Sort of semi-custom line-up, maybe mix and match, chose your scales, chose your steel and chose your blades, yes sir, I will be first in line for a good half dozen and then to heck with collecting...............300Bucks

My favorite 301 modified thru the use of the pixel pixie.

Same thing but a 303 cadet. From three springs to two. Or maybe we could go to just one spring....sort of a SUPER 309.

Tell ya what Bucks, get Buck to make that, and I'll give you my first born. He's 6'1" and has great teeth.
