Single blade folder with brass bolsters..?

I'm looking for a single blade folder with brass bolsters, like the Buck 110, but was wondering if there are any bigger ones? (Production models.) Also, is the Buck 110 the "best" of these types?

Geez. 110 is getting to the upper limit of folders. There might be a couple longer by a 1/4" or so, but would be thinner and somewhat less robust (folding hunter type or yukon/clasp). Can't think of one with brass bolsters.

IMO, a Buck 110 from the Buck Custom shop would be the "best" of these types.

The standard production Buck 110's sometimes have issues, as one might expect of a knife at that price point. A knife from the Custom shop costs about twice as much as a Production knife for the same blade steel and similar covers. But, items from the custom shop get more individual attention.

It is also possible to get upgraded blade alloy and fancy covers if you want, but that increases the cost difference.

Cool, thanks, I didn't know about that. If you pick out the standard model components, it'll cost 73$ -- the same price as the ones on their "Store" page, so I think the price difference is due to the MSRP, not because it's from the custom shop.

Anyhow, are there any other, similarly sized folders with brass bolsters and wooden inlay, but perhaps with a beefier blade?

Bigger? It's already a substantial knife that, too big for pocket-carry in my view.

I would suggest a large Laguiole as many of those have brass bolsters, but it is a different type of knife. Worth thinking about though.

You can find Folding Hunters on the bay that are single blade or two bladed. They were made by most old knife companies (Camillus, Schrade, Etc). The picture is of an Imperial Frontier made by Camillus.

You aren't going to find many or any traditional folders with a stouter blade than a 110. As mentioned in my original post on this thread, most traditionals are going to have thinner blades that are better slicers. You may find one with a longer blade, but not one that's thicker.

The Queen Mountain Man and the larger GEC folders may approach the 110 in stoutness, but wont have brass bolsters, and probably aren't as big.

The whole idea with the 110 was basically to put a fixed blade blade in a folding, locking handle. It pushes the design parameters of the traditional knife.

You are correct. "Street cost" for a 110 is about half the Buck web store price. But if you get one from the custom shop, you pay the full price. And "street price" is what I go by.
