I have been interested in getting my hands on a trapper with a single blade. I like stag handles and a decent length blade of say 2.5 to 3 inches. If you guys have any ideas I welcome them. I am not against going custom either as long as I can keep it below the $400 mark. Thanks.

Lots of great choices many by makers who are members at BFC as well as other makers.

You will be able to find a great single blade in that range.

You may want to drop a line or call some of the makers posting in the Makers Folders for sale forum. I am sure most of us have noticed that there has been quite a bit of activity in that forum and some very nice looking knives have been in there especially over the last few weeks. Personally, I have been thrilled to see as many quality traditional knives in there as there have been.

+1 on what Gus says. We are indeed fortunate to have so many talented makers gracing our site, many of whom will make a fantastic knife within or below your parameters.

Take a look here on this sub-forum, in the Maker's Gallery, the Maker's "For Sale" area as well as the Custom Forum (and custom knives "for sale" area) to get a sense of whose work appeals to you.

And welcome to you.

Check out Tim Britton - great value for the money. And it won't cost you $400.

If you want to push your $400 mark,Jrerry Halfrich does a Bose style that cuts real good,a little wait though, but worth it

I would take a look at Ken Coats knives, his blade forums name is kccustoms his knives are just amazing and he would make one for you, per your requirements. Take a look at some of his in the custom folders for sale forum.

While not a traditional trapper the Scagel #11 is close, major difference being the blade width. Shown here with an Old Timer single trapper.

Would it be foolish to suggest the Queen Utility which is a slimline trapper?

And its easy to get and a deal under 40.00! Also look at the Queen Copperhead 1 blade if you need a wider blade.

The Schatt Morgan F&W Swing gard may work if you want factory "upscale"

Kerry Hampton just made this Bose style back pocket folder for me at a price well under your limit. I should receive it sometime next week but I'm already drooling at the prospect of slipping this baby into my pocket.

You'll likely have a long wait but Kerry's a great person to deal with and I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results.
