Single bladed folder vs SAK (opinions needed plz)

Hey guys, I have been seriously wondering about this. I have been collecting knives my whole entire life. Incorporating a blade into your EDC load out is necessary in this day in age. My first knife I ever got was a Victorinox Camper and I carried that around with me everywhere. Then, I saw "tactical" one hand opening/locking/pocket clipped knives and I ditched the SAK. Then I got my first multitool, a Classic LM Wave, and ditched the folder. But now, I rarely ever carry a single bladed knife. I just find a multi-bladed SAK that much more useful. A blade can be used for so many different things but there's so much you can't do with it. I have been carrying a Victorinox Farmer in my pocket for a few weeks now and I LOVE it. (I also carry an MT for emergencies) I really can't see going back to a single bladed folder. I just want to know why some people chose to carry a single bladed knife. I like the versatility of screwdrivers, a saw, scissors, etc on a SAK...

Thank you

If you carry a multitool....why have a big SAK banging around in your pocket?

See? Light and thin in pocket (especially in "office" pants)...thick and heavy someplace else.

Nothing mysterious about it.

The Farmer isn't really a BIG SAK and I use one of the P-7 Suspension Clips.

My bladed EDC consists of a Leatherman , a large folder ( lately my Kershaw JYDII ) and a smaller folder or slipjoint for the timid hearts - and thats just what in my pockets.

Do I use these all of the time ? I surprise myself by how much I use all of them on a daily basis.

I feel single blade folder and SAK are excellent combination. SAK is excellent utility and people friendly... but if I have to choose, I would probably take SAK soldier.

i always have a Vid Cadet on me, i find the tools very useful, but for cutting tasks, my main blade will see the most use

It's just personal preference.

I like the versatility of the SAK but sometimes like to carry just a single blade folder. Of course, the SAK and/or MT are either in my desk, my truck console or on my dresser. -In other words not far away!

If I am outdoors, then I may have both.

I believe in carrying what you like and what works for you.

I prefer single blade knives simply because I like them. I also find the multitools to be much more useful overall. I could really get by with just my Leatherman Wave, but that doesn't change how much I like the single bladed knives. I'm not fooling myself.

I'm currently EDCing a fixed blade but have a SAK Solo on the way. Tried the Farmer and loved it but I'm weird in that I hate carrying things I hardly ever use like can opener, screw drivers, etc. The Solo will be my new "sheeple knife."

I always have my SwissTool or Spirit with me
my edc is either a SAK or a GEC or other knife

I carry a multi-tool and a single bladed folder. The folder is very useful when you only have one free hand, or if you need to cut something in a jiffy. It's just nice to have it right there in your pocket and ready to go in less than a second when the need arises.

Plus, let's face it, they're cool.

I carry SAKs a lot, but sometimes I just like having the simplicity of a single blade; there's something about the minimalism that appeals to me.

EDIT: In fact, the more I think about, the more I realize I *prefer* single-bladed knives. My favorite knife in my entire collection is a GEC Scout. It has no locking mechanism, one blade, and beautiful wood handles -- awesome to use, hold and look at. Especially living in NYC, it represents the antithesis of the clutter and complexity of modern life.

Excellent combination!

I now always carry a big lockback. I went through a phase where I carried a Swisschamp for years but I found liked the better cutting power of a lockback better. I have tools on my keychain which do everything the SAK did: screwdrivers, small pliers, tweezers, bottle opener, etc.(except the corkscrew, fish-scaler and sillier tools I never used anyway) The way my EDC is set up now I don't miss the SAK and I wouldn't go back to carrying it.

I EDC my SAK Huntsman and love it. I think I've used everything on it but the goofy hook and it doesn't scare the easily scared. That and my BK-11 should handle lots and lots.

It depends on my plans for the day. I generally EDC an old SAK tinker, it has the screwdrivers and blades and survival bottle opener that I need :D

In addition, somedays I just want a single-blade folder also, like an Opinel or sodbuster, for cutting fruit and making sandwiches.

But I still carry the SAK...and maybe a Whitler for small stuff.

it depends on what i have planned from day to day. i've been rockin' a single blade folder for the past three months now and here is why:
easy one hand access, very light weight, a good size usable blade w/o printing, can handle most all cutting needs, ease of carry and use, and more dedicated to a specific task.
i also always have a SAK classic or mini champ with me also:
very light weight, multi function, ease of carry (fits on key ring), and a good back up to primary blade.

i like MTs too but i don't carry one anymore:
too heavey, don't need pliers, poor compromise to a correct tool for job (unless you have a vic spirit), i try not to look like batman at all times. sometimes an extra trip to the tool box is exactly what you need.

farmers are nice but it's one layer too many for EDC for me. loose the saw and your have a soldier.... make it smaller and you have a cadet... now that's what i'm talkin' about  but only in addition to a light weight folder.
