Hi there folks..
Ok please help me out here.
I am shopping for a single bladed Wharncliffe knife.
I am not experienced in the Wharncliffe side of things, but when I see a good one...man...it IS a good one!! and I am at the stage where I need to have one.

Could you help me with your comments, also with accompanying photos if possible? I would be MOST gratefull.
Thanks for your help with this one. I hope you dont mind if I say yes or no to you recommendations, as I find myself to be a impulsive buyer when it comes to all our lovely knives, but with the Wharnies...I know when I like the look, and when I dont, and this thread will be the beginning of a me owning a Wharncliffe for the first time.
Obviously I would love to own a Custom, but my awesome lady wants to buy me a knife for Xmas...and who am I to deny her? :D
Thanks guys/gals...I look forward to your help on this one, ...whatever the out come...i will let you know!

Well, there's the new GEC wharncliffe lockback. Look around for the few years old Case Copperlock wharncliffe. There's also the new Case Sway Back Gent and Desk Knife models, and at least two mini trapper models with a single Wharncliff configuration.

I have the Case Sway Back Jack (SBJ) in Pocketworn Red Bone & it is a great little knife.

GEC #25. 1095 perfection. Powerhouse of my pocket. My ever-faithful companion. I love this knife!!!

Hi there jo-bob..I have seen Dennis's thread -he has shown the GEC'S single bladed Wharnies...they are nice...VERY nice..but I have seen others out there that just reach out and hit you...Those gec's are certainly up there!
Thank you! :)

Well, there's the Case/Bose Swayback Gents - pattern #TB61117 in bone or TB51117 in stag -- 3 1/5" closed. There's also the new mini trapper single blade wharncliff - pattern #5107W CV in stag - there's also a 6107W SS in bone -- 3 1/2" closed. I haven't handled either one of them, just pointing them out.

Todd...yeah...nice...damned nice, and I do remember stating that very comment...the Wharncliffe I want has the longer blade...but man when you look at your photo's..and look at them again...you can feel the attraction..this is why I thought about doing this thread ...so at the end...I can say..."yep...thats the one"!...I hope this sounds ok?
Thanks so much for everyones help at such a fast pace!
Duncan

I'll see your single bladed GEC NF Wharncliffe Arrowhead Jigged Bone Jack and raise you a double bladed GEC NF Wharncliffe Arrowhead Jigged Bone Jack.

Although the Wharncliffe blade on these #25 GEC Jacks is on the short side, they get the job done. They make very nice, easy carry, EDCs.

Dwight...you are onto it...I went into the case site...and then I remembered I copied this picture, I hope that the original forum member ok's me to use this photo...as this knife blew me away when I saw it.
But that is most definitely the shape that I am aiming for..
thank you:thumbup:

Ed...Thank you, and you can see that the knife shown in the photo's would get the job done, I have to be honest...the knife is about performance AND looks...is this a beginner thing?

Duncan, at the risk of increasing your desire for a custom, here's a single blade wharncliffe from Hiroaki Ohta that I had a few years ago. A nice EDC-sized piece. Maybe one to keep in mind for down the road. ;)

Just wondering, is it an actual need, or a severe want=need? Just asking, wondering what the wharncliffe blade is intended to be used for. I have nothing else to add, sorry.

Schatt & Morgan Swayback

Handle: Morning Ash WG Bone
Steel: ATS34 Size: 4 1/8"

It is actually a swaybelly frame
Get your supplier to check the F&F
If good then excellent

Hi fierostetz,
I have asked the very same question about the actual shape of the Wharncliffe blade-as to what was it originaly designed for?..
And I must admit...it is the severe want = need here :D

Thank you very much folks for your great help here....there are some real nice knives here...and they will definitely help me make a choice!!

Get the GEC #72 lockback. I bought the working man's version of this knife in the lesser expensive jigged bubinga wood Tidioute Beaver Tail model. While they may not be as spit shine perfect as some of these other fine models being shown here they make a great user and I'll tell ya what! GEC is doing their 1095 right! This thing keeps an edge pretty well based on what I'm experiencing. Granted it won't come that way. I mean you'll have to sharpen it to your liking but other than this you can count on it being a good one once you get her where you want her. I put mine on the Edge Pro and did it up nice down to a 600 grit stone followed up with a couple swipes on the ceramic rod followed up by some hard presses into a legal pad cardboard backing on a table and its been good to go ever since. I've also found that this model is very pocketable considering its bigger than most I carry deep in my pocket. vendor link removed by moderators per guidelines
