I have a question for you guys that strap a single mag pouch to your Kydex sheath on your survival knife to put survival goodies in, what container do you put inside the mag pouch to store your goodies in?
I know you can buy a pouch big enough for an Altoid tin, but that's not what I'm after here.
I've found containers too big and too small, but I've yet to find, "that one."
Any recommendations?

Why don't you make one out of Kydex? Make it a two piece box with one piece sliding over the other.

I have three single mag pouches and I have never thought of using one for survival goodies. Great idea!

You know Cat, if a guy was crafty enough, you could cut a piece of wood the size you want and mold the Kydex around it. I just don't know how your fasten the top. Friction fit?
Any Kydex makers interested?

I know you are asking for a pistol mag carrier but ...

You could drop the spring and follower out of an ar mag with a mag cover, then fill it and use it to fit the carrier it was designed for.

Nice idea, that would hold alot. You are right though, it'd prolly be bigger than my sheath/setup.
I want this setup to be streamlined. I just want some basic survival items. I don't want this being big and cumbersome. This will be the rig I grab when heading out to the Wild Blue Yonder. My go-to rig.
The knife has a 4 1/2 inch blade and handle. Not too big...not too small.

Just a different option... I often use a small belt pouch for some EDC gear in the winter. You can often find some mini camera pouches at BB or other store for around $5-$10 on sale. They are nice since they zipper close and can fit a decent amount of gear. I cut down some cardboard and make a box with dividers inside it if I want to arrange different things with fast access, eg. flashlight, lighter, MT/knife, etc.

Scott, that would work and it would work well. Prolly better than my idea. You'd have more room.
I had an epiphany, I'm thinking of buying a cheap flashlight, the size I need in a bright, gaudy color and gutting it. Stay tuned.

Just some other options. Depending on the size you need and whether you need a working flashlight or not, you might just go with some cut PVC pipe and caps from the hardware store. If you smoke cigars (or know someone that does), some cigars come inside a small aluminum (e.g. Romeo and Julieta) or plastic housing (e.g. Garcia & Vega; grocery store brand). I thought about the flashlight idea awhile back myself, but prefer different options i.e. Sucrets/Altoids tins. However I usually store medical supplies in a ziplock bag, and tools in a small canvas toolbag from the hardware store (fits in one of my water bottle pockets on my backpack). I don't like the idea of being stuck out in the rain or the dark with my flashlight, then needing to take it apart for stuff I need. However, I think Life Gear at Walmart has some inexpensive flashlights that are 90% empty space, but I can't remember how easy it was to take apart for storage or whether they took easy-to-find batteries.

Some other things that tend to be overlooked (often you, family, friends, might have laying around, or available for pennies at GW): sunglass cases, Vaporizer cases, contact lense kit/cleaner cases, etc. I tend to use these to store different categories of emergency things and toss them in my luggage or briefcase depending on where I'm going. Just suggestions for things you might already have that might fulfill your role.

All great ideas to consider. Are you thinking of doing this or am I the only one?
Something else that comes close is an empty Airborne container. The one that had the dissolving tablets in it.

If you are referring to me personally, I don't have a survival knife per se. I do, however, have a small emergency bag with some items that might help in different situations. I like to keep things organized, so I use some small pouches that I transfer from briefcase, to backpack, to luggage depending on what I think I'll need (although some of these things are replicated in my emergency bag). Additionally, soft cases (or even ziplock bags) take up less room, often weigh less, and can change shape depending on what bag I need to toss them into.

In all honesty, I'm a big fan of those slide lock ziplock bags. They can help keep things dry/clean, serve as an extra container, collect/hold water, etc... I've even used one to operate my touch screen phone in torrential downpours.
