I'm planning on getting a Gerber Silver Trident. Should I go with single or double serrations? I personally prefer the double serrations, but some other opinions would be appreciated :)

I prefer single serrations....they're easier to sharpen, and are better for tough work. The little ones can snap off sometimes...

Yeah, what GarageBoy said. Having said that I will say that I found the chisel tip upper serrations to be quite useful when I had one, especially since the upper ones were actually fairly effective for cutting wood. The lower ones work better for things like rope. Personally, I'd say go with the double since it gives you a little more versatility.

edited to add here you can see the difference between the two. The single serrated version is on the left.

Single, the top chisel edged ones are near useless. I have tried them on ropes, various synthetics, woods, metals, plastics, etc. . At best they match the performance of the primary and on most materials they are far behind.
