I am looking for a light similar in all aspects to the Fenix E15, other than that I would like one that will run on rechargeable 16340's. Anyone know of anything that will do this??

According to the Fenix E15's users manual, 16340's are "Banned" from use in the E15, but I have not tested this out myself, yet.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I run an RCR123 in a Quark Mini 123. That's not exactly the same light, and its more spendy, but the size and form factor are pretty close.

I've got a NovaTac and just ordered a Sunwayman v11 both run the 123s

Sales pitch from the website
The SUNWAYMAN V11R is one revolutionary compact and extensible EDC flashlight. This light is compatible with one single CR123A (RCR123A, 16340)

AFAIK NovaTac has gone the way of the dodo bird so I won't go down that road...

EDIT: Fenix has way to many websites...

Thanks for the recommendation, that looks great, but the product manual says not to run RCR123s.

Have you had any problems with yours?

Are you referring to the Quark Mini 123? If so, the answer is no. You can check out candlepowerforums regarding usage of RCR123 in a CR123 light. Some lights can handle the increased voltage, and some not. Check out this link regarding the Mini 123: link. Many manufacturers will recommend against the RCR123 as it generates more heat during extended runtimes, but for many lights the RCR123 will work just fine. Some lights will be fried by the extra voltage, and some can handle it, so you have to look at each light on a case by case basis. But the Mini 123 is fine with the RCR123. Rock on.

Though its a different form factor, consider the Quark Mini AA running a rechargeable AA (I forget the battery number). I have one of those as well, and its awesome. Nutnfancy did a short review on this setup:

Get an HDS. Well worth the $200.

Great link! Thanks.

I think I am going to pick one of those up.

Regarding the V11R, I'm a Surefire fan myself (the T1A Titan is the best light I've ever had) but I came across a Sunwayman V11R a few weeks ago and I have to say, it's not bad. The guy I bought it from also had the AA/14500 adapter so it'll run CR123/RCR/IMR16340/RCR14500 as well as the AA alkaline/rechargeable/lithium cells. It's a pretty good light and plenty bright enough with a rechargeable AA in it.

I've got a NovaTac (I think the HDS is similar) and it's pretty big for a single cell light. Tough as nails, I'm sure, but the size is a bit much. The thing I like most about the T1A and V11R is the ability to ramp up or down the light output rather than preset levels. It's super-useful and will spoil you once you've had a light with that feature. Not many do.

My two cents.

I really like my Olight s-10 baton- 400 lumens, single cr123 battery 4 light modes $50- at Going Gear.

I highly recommend a Sunwayman V10R, either the plain version, or the Ti version. They state 500 lumens on a 16340 (RCR123a), and I believe it. I have both versions, and they are just great is all I can say. They brightness is controlled by a ring you rotate, so you can dial in exactly the amount of light you need. The 16340 battery will yield almost twice the output of the standard lithium 123 battery, and they are designed to use them.. Hope this helps!

Another suggestion - the Maratac Cu 123. It's a copper light, very nice looking. I just ordered one myself, and I've researched the fact people DO run 16340's in them. Around 50 bucks shipped +- from county comm.

The maratac looks great but looks to be incapable with a rechargeable 123.

Have been carrying the Solarforce Z1 at work for a couple months now. Wanted something more substantial than my fenix L0D but without rocking a "bat belt" and found I can clip this in my back pocket and not even notice it. Functionally it has worked awesome with everything from super bright to nice and dim and no annoying stroke. Only complaint, I wish it had a mode memory or different cycle order, but that's a minor issue. So far I love it and other than the "funky Cr123" batteries can't thinking of a single reason not to buy more.

Ive got sunwayman 11r as well. Running on 16340. Great bang for the buck. Good luck.
