Single vs Dual Thumbstuds

I really don't understand why, as a manufacturer, you would want to use a single thumbstud in your folders:

(a) I can't imagine that the "cost" of using dual ones rather than singles would be adversly affected to any great extent. It should also help reduce inventory 'scope' with suppliers.

(b) Aesthetically, IMHO it looks much better having a "balanced" look on a blade, regardless of whether or not the knife was intended for ambidextrous usage or not.

Any thoughts?

Joe.

The only negative I can see about dual studs is the chance that it may get caught on clothing. Probably not a grand concern though, I've never had it happen.

I actually prefer the look of the single thumbstud. Just a personal preferance thing I guess.

I agree that two thumbstuds are better than one because I like my knives to be ambidexterous.

One stud is rather limiting.

The vast majority of my knives don't even have thumbstuds (balisongs, autos, and Spydercos). However, if the knife has thumbstuds, I prefer ambidexterous ones just because. The 3 knives I have with thumbstuds are dual studded (but these are still autos anyway  ).

Given the choice I won't buy a knife with dual thumbstuds. I like the look of a single thumbstud, don't want a second stud to hang up on clothing, and I'm not ambidextrous. As in most things I like to keep it simple.
