Hi all. I got a kitchen pass today and went on a solo day hike in the Sipsey Wilderness area in Alabama.

All told, I only hiked a little over 9 miles. Today it was about 85 degrees and has been raining here alot which resulted in the rivers were extremely full and muddy.

Here is what I hiked with.
I loved the Max 12 x 5 bottle holder (thanks 2wolves). I had this attached to my Falcon II but figured this would all I would need for today's hike.

In it I had a Altoids PSK, fire kit, bandana, 38 oz naglene bottle with guyot cup.
I also had a OHT SAK with me.
What I learned is that I need to find a way to incorperate a FAK and 550 cord.
I needed a hiking stick so I found a freshly downed tree and made one with my RC-4.

After a few hours, I took a break and ate lunch: summer sausage and crackers.

The rest are from the hike. It was a blast today and hope you enjoy the pics.

I ran out of water, so I tried to dig out a hole near a water fall. The water never got clear in the hole so I ended up just getting watter from the water fall and then put in some water tablets.

Nice pics, milani74. Looks like a good hike. I wish you hadn't shown the summer sausage, though: now I'm hungry again (there goes my diet).

Great Pics M..

I've got to get over to bama and do some hiking.

Are you familiar with the "sand rock" area? I think that's the name. It's supposed to be in NE Alabama, but I can't find it on any maps.

Nice shots. How long did you wait for the water tablets to do their magic?

Beautiful! I am ashamed to say, I have lived in Alabama all my life and have never been to Sipsey.

This high 80's acold snap lately has been nice, hasn't it? Humidity is brutal, though. I spent the weekend without air conditioning at the old home place in Tallapoosa County,
and in the morning when I would put on a fresh pair of jeans you could feel the moisture they had accumulated from the atmosphere.

Hi John,
Look in google maps. It is south east from Guntersville Lake, off of I-59.
It is a nice area. I have camped down at Guntersville before and had a blast.

Yes. I was sweating so bad my shirt was soaked. I dunked my head in the water and it felt fantastic.

I saw some great spots to do some bouldering there! ughhhhhh i need to get to some better climbing areas.

Thanks for sharing the pics. Looks like a beautiful place. And that summer sausage looks delicious!

Those are some cool pics. I like the shot of the waterfall, it looks pretty sweet. Thanks for sharing
