sirupati or ang khola?

I've got a good ganga for chopping, and nice Gelbu for the zombies, and a dandy 12" AK by kumar for almost everything in between. It should seem like I have my bases covered, but I can't shake the desire for something in the 15inch range. What I'm looking for is a good "Jack of all trades" throw it in the pack, it'll be able to handle whatever comes along, be it chopping kindling, clearing trails, or fending off desperados. I've got it narrowed to a 15" AK or a 15" Siru. If I had the money, it would be a moot point, but since I don't, which is the better buy for an all around user?

15" Ang khola is a better chopper, but the sirupati cut like the dickens.

From what Ive noted on the knives weights on the DOTD posts the weights on many aren't that far apart. If you pick up a Sirupati watch its weight against the Ang Khola. My 15" Ang Khpla weighs in at 24 oz. for the knife alone.

I have just gone for a 15inch/25ounce BAS to fill the gap that the I thought existed somewhere between the 12inch/12ounce Bonecutter and 17inch Foxy Folly.

I got a 25inch/34ounce Kobra for Zombie duties. :D

Chitlangi.

Almost as fast/agile as a Sirupati, with some of the Ang Khola's chopping power.

BUT if you have decided between the two you mentioned, I'd go for the Sirupati.

I agree totally with Wolf_1989 about the Chitlangi but the 15.25inch one I have is only 19 ounces and I was after something a bit heavier around the good old British favourite 1 1/2 pound mark. :D

I know i've said this before but it's something to consider in your situation.
The 15" BAS or Penknife are lighter in weight, easily packable and make great Camp/trail blades. Out of the two you've chosen though the AK would be better for Batonning.

I just got a 16" 18oz pen knife, but it's just doesnt do it for me so I'm looking to get rid of it and replace it with something else. The chitilangi seems like it might be what I'm looking for. Have any been made around 15" and 20+ oz?

Siru is going to be better in the brush clearing department. If you keep kindling under 3" diameter, it will do that, too. But if a light weight (i.e. thinner) AK came along, I would jump on it. BAS is somewhat of a compromise between the two blade shapes. If the Pen knife doesn't do it for you, I think the BAS would definitely fit the bill as a general packing around knife.

The 15inch/20oz combination should be obtainable, although my Chitlangi is 15.25 inches and only 19 ounces.

Keep an eye out for Deals of the Day or better still email Yangdu with your specific wants to see if one is in stock or can be readily obtained as they are a regular production blade.

15.5", 21 oz Chitlangi is what I bought my wife so we have his-and-hers matched Chitlangis.

Whoao, those are FANTASTIC, I am very jealous! Which kami, and what is the length on the second one?

How much slower is a chitlangi compared to a sirupati of the same weight?

Of the same weight? A Chitlangi will be a little heavier and wider bladed than a Sirupati of the same length, making the Sirupati the winner if you're looking for speed... but not by much. The Chitlangi makes up for it by having better chopping ability, though not as powerful as the dedicated power choppers like the Ang Khola.

BENNYJENKINS:

My ideas for your KHUKURI situation are as follows: 15" BAS (my #1 carry item), Any ANGKHOLA 15" thru 18" (Heavy, great for chopping), 14" BONECUTTER (Great for either inside or outside, simple chores), BILTONG (In the kitchen, or at a camp site), M43 or W-II 15" thru 18" (Chopping or camp chores similar to to the ANGKHOLA). There are other type KHUKURI's available from HIMALAYAN IMPORTS, but these are "MY" basic type KHUKURI that I suggest! I hope that this helps you out!
