"Sirupati" Special?

Namaste all,

I've done some searching, but could not find out for certain if the subject of a "Sirupati Special" has been considered in this forum or others. If so, could somebody post the URL for this, please? If not, what would one look for in such a Sirupati, aside from being an excellent example of the style.

Thank you for your replies.

Mohd,

The 24 inch Sirupati looks interesting. I note that it was a special order.

Uncle Bill, has the owner of this piece commented on it, please? Also, any pix available of the entire khukuri?

Also, would it be possible to get Pala's opinion as what characteristics he considers to be present in a great Sirupati, please?

Thank you.

Pala feels a khukuri should look good, feel good, and work well in any situation.

The owner of the 24 incher had it on order for a long time and when it arrived he was both surprised and delighted. "Exactly what I wanted!"

Uncle Bill,

Yes, I am thinking about ordering one for my coming of age ceremony next year....but some questions first:

The specs on the 24 incher were:

blade length 18.5
handle length 6.5
overall 25 inches
blade width 2 inches
blade thickness 1/2 inch at back
weight about 1.75 lbs

Was the handle wood or horn? What kind?

Cho - What kind was it?

Blade - Any engraving?

Scabbard - What kind was done for this khukuri?

Karda/chakma - how long were they? Can they be made 6-7 inches long?

Shop 2 made?

Lead time for this special order?

Price?

Can't remember. Problem with horn is finding one long and straight enough but it is possible. Wood is sure and easier.

Cho - What kind was it?

Standard.

Blade - Any engraving?

None.

Scabbard - What kind was done for this khukuri?

Standard.

Karda/chakma - how long were they? Can they be made 6-7 inches long?

At least 7 inches, probably longer.

Shop 2 made?

Yes.

Lead time for this special order?

I am guessing two to three months.

Price?

$175.
