I got my first HI about a week ago I chose a Sirupati 25" and was quite impressed. It truly is a beautiful blade. It came with a roughly sharpened edge and the hardness of the blade has suprised me. I started touching up the blade and after getting it "shaving sharp" I took it out and showed it to a friend. His comment was he had never seen anything like it and said it would make a nice wall hanger. I told him I intended to use it as a field knife. We went out to his garage and he found a couple of 1 x 2s and we started to play. It went about two thirds the way through on the first swing and suprised both of us. After that we went out back where he had a fallen tree that he wanted cut up for firewood. It has been laying around for about a year and he hasn't had time to get to it. It was about 6 inches in diameter and about 20 foot long. It cut through the tree an average of 7 to 10 chops. I have never seen something cut like this. I cleaned the blade and ran the crocks over them a little bit. It hadn't lost it's edge but neither had I gone as far as it would hold. I than took it to a gun show the next day to show to a friend that runs a table and got the same comment, "Nice decoration" but to pretty to use. I told him that I had already started to use it and he wouldn't believe me. I also got the same reaction from a man selling Spydco knives. It truly is a beauty and I'm sure I will enjoy it the rest of my years. As well as all the other blades I will be getting from Uncle Bill. Thanks again Uncle Bill for making a dream come true of owning an authentic blade from Nepal.

Syad,

Uncle Bill has made many a dream come true!

Cool story! Brings back memories of when I got my first one--the 20" AK. I walked around the house with it for days! Took it to work even! Anyway, congrats on the new blade--it won't be your last, there's just something about them you can't put into words... I've found that friends I tell about my khuks don't get it untill they hold and use one THEN they understand....

Happy chopping,
Rob

Syad, that khukuri isn't even optimized for chopping. I am always disappointed by the way people look at my khukuri's. They see them as wall hangers and display items, not something to seriously use. Most people are exposed to tourist khukuri's and assume this is the norm.

Syad, I have a 20" and a 30" Sirupati. ( OK, OK, a 30", two 20", a 15" and 2 12"ers .)
Isn't the 25" a bit heavy for one hand use? I don't usually get the 30" of mine out unless I need some serious chiropractic work done on my back and the chiropractor won't be in for 3 or 4 days. I'm serious, it's weight when swung pulls my back into line.

It is a bit on the heavy side I will admit but the balance is there and I am a pretty big guy 6'3" 225 but it does still give me a workout. I was glad I didn't ask for the 30"!
My friend that went through the tree once is still complaining. One that its not his and two that his arm still hurts

My arm was a little stiff for a day or two. No offense Uncle but I think I will pass on the 22" ak at eight pounds it should be throwing lead at a large tasty deer or elk! I am still interested in the Katana and Kobras though

I still can't get over the beauty of it though. A friends girl friend brought me back a wall hanger from Nepal, about 12" It's ok I can tell it's forged but it has a "pretty" scabbard and is heavily engraved with a dragon running down the blade, bone handle (with loose but cap) but you can tell the difference in quality in about 2 seconds if you're sleepy and not paying very close attention.
