I went to the Queen Charlotte Islands for 8 days to hunt Sitka Deer. It was a 7 hour drive to the coast, then a 7 hour ferry ride to get to the islands. Four of us went and stayed in a 14x16' wall tent. Thank goodness for the wood stove as we got a lot of rain and snow.

Here is a pick of a rub tree:

An old cedar stump in the second growth (notice the rifle for scale):

And a shot of the knife I took:

I should have taken more pictures.....

Congrats on the buck, glad you scored something afte such a long commute. Looks like some gorgeous wilderness.

Putting meat down... that's what it's all about right there. Congrats on the kill, Bruce.

When hunting you don't really think to take pictures.. or at least I don't... and I was only hunting in my back yard.

And that we did! We shot 19 deer in total, 6 with rifle and 13 with archery. There were 4 of us and the limit is 5 per person. The deer were tranplanted to the islands and their only predator is black bears (no wolves, coyotes, or cougars).

What kind of caliber where you shooting Bruce. For little blackies like that my lever action .243 is a perfect brush gun.

I see a lot of sausage in your future....

Great stuff Bruce, some good hunting buddy !

Did ya know that they aren't called the Queen Charlottes anymore, they are now known as Haida Gwaii !!!

7mm-08 it was more than enough gun for the little Sitka blacktails.

Yea, I'm a little slow to change. I'm also upset that the "locals" got the season limited to only 4 black bears a year now (basically shut down the hunt). Also the same locals who got the name of the islands changed. Still using QCI is my own little way of protesting.....

the day I call the Queen Charlottes the "haida gwai" will be long in coming, more no to change than slow.

If only there was real intent at integration into the rest of society and self sufficiency not a entitled culture of apathy, handouts and corrupt "self governing" leadership......

Hey Bruce, thanks for the post Bro!!! I used to live down on Prince of Wales in S.E.Alaska and love to hunt those little buggers... Good eats.
