...watching my money roll away.

Darned yellow handled fever. I made the mistake of going down to the docks of ebay. Won a Case XX yellow handled, #32087 CV, pen knife.

Worse yet, I am currently high bidder (we'll know in a hour) of two more yellow handle CV Cases. One is a #31048 slimline trapper, and the other a #3220 Peanut. All NIB and at good prices even after shipping.

I'm starting to like those trappers, especially the single blades. And I still don't have any congress patterns in my stash yet.

Then there are things lurking there like Case rattlesnake whittlers, amber stag canoes, and.... I'm so torn, arrrghhhh!

Sooo, what have you guys been falling victim to lately?

I almost won the bid on a assembled Grohmann #1 SS blade. I was winning @ $21.50 but someone came in at least 30.00 or higher. (You can buy a new one for 34.95 now) But I have been there my friend. I won a BRKT Northstar & a Russel Barlow on the same day about 4 weeks ago. didn't really expect to win either. Happy I did though:D

I really like the new line of Queen slipjoints with the Birdseye Maple handles and D2 blade steel....I just got a one blade slim trapper that I am carrying now, and I have a whittler pattern arriving soon from Ebay.

Well, I won the trapper, but not the peanut. Like Tarmix I got sniped at the very last moment. That's okay as I prefer the slimline trapper over the peanut anway. And, I've done my fair share of sniping. So I turned around and bid on another yellow handle, a CV stockman. I figure it's about time I got a stockman since I've been without one for some time. That ends in less than an hour. If that doesn't work, not problem, I have several things on my watch list. (maniacal laughter)

Queens, Bokers, and some others are on my want to aquire list. I've been eyeing those Russel Barlows too. I just started building my YH Case collection in CV so am pouncing when I find pieces NIB at a good price. When I have the extra money that is. So things go slow. Who knows though what pretties in what brands and patterns will pop up at the right price/right time along the way though. I can apprciate targets of opportunity. :D

You are going to love your CV Trapper. My dad carried a case carbon trapper for years. I was taught how to sharpen with that knife. Good steel, easy to carry, and I to like the blade designs. I had a peanut and it was a good knife. Just a Little to small for me. Good for you:thumbup:

there's just something about a yellow handled knife you can't turn down. I picked up a yellow handled trapper with cv blades and i love it. later, ahgar

Nice find Confederate! Ya' know, I graduated HS in 75, maybe you ought to send that my way as a (very) late graduation present.;)

Yep, ahgar, I don't know what is is about those yellow handles, but they do have an attraction. At least we don't suffer alone. Some of the patterns are a little too sharp edged on the bolsters and scales for my taste, but there's something about those handles.

Tarmix, I've already got the 3254 CV Trapper YH and an older Schrade 1940T single blade, liner lock trapper, so the slimline yellow handle should fit right in.

I missed the Stockman by 50 cents, but that's okay. It leaves me a chance to go after some others in some interesting bone scales before my blade buying budget is once again shot. It doesn't take much.

I've noticed I'm starting to be drawn to the jack-style patterns, either single or double blades on one end. I think I would have liked to have had the peanut, but am happy that of the two it was the trapper I snagged. The larger blades in single-ended slipjoints and the occasional liner lock are really starting to appeal to me while the Bear Paw/Buck 110 styles don't anymore.

I'm finding there are still certain double end patterns I'm being drawn to, but they are different from the ones I used to prefer, hence the earlier thread about changing tastes. I used to be a devout stockman carrier, now the pattern doesnt' feel as good in my hand. The canoe has always attracted me, but I've still to get my first one (maybe an CV Amber Bone soon <g>). As I mentioned in the past it was only recently I got my first sodbuster and we have become inseperable. The darn thing carries so easy I often have to check my pocket to make sure it is still there. I've also started eyeing whittlers, thanks to a thread a little while ago in this forum. See, ahgar, what goes around comes around <g>. And, I know I will have to get some congress patterns, probably small and medium sized ones. Oh yeah, and aren't those Daddy and Grandaddy Barlows just pure pleasure?

There isn't any real cure for this is there? A person may get on the wagon for years, but is sure to fall off someday only to bemoan all the great knives he/she got rid of. Oh well, the ones I'm acquiring/collecting don't cost as much as the guns I used to accumulate and they don't take up as much space. Yet.

I was wondering if anyone thinks it would be a good idea to share what they're handle is on ebay so if we see someone from here seriously going after a knife that we can live without we could back off for them? Good idea or bad?

If you folks will excuse me, I need to stroll down to the dock and see what a couple of pieces are doing at present. ;)

Amos

P.S. The exchange? If I go there will I get addicted? For that matter, if a man speaks in the woods, but there is no one around, will a woman still manage to tell him he is wrong?

LANNY

Hello Lanny & Water Knife,
I believe the exchange refers to the 'knife exchange' right here at bf where you can buy, sell or trade your next knife with your very own fellow members. I have used it on multiple occasions and very much enjoy transacting with other bf members. I especially like buying custom knives directly from the makers... Not to mention getting some pretty good deals in the process  !

Amos, I don't mind sharing at all! I use frnorth on EBAY, and I'm always looking for punch jacks/ Harness Jacks! I'd appreciate an email from anyone who trips over one, especially if it doesn't have "punch" or "harness" in the title, which are the usual search criteria. It's amazing how many people miss out on multiple bids for their stuff by mis-listing it! I once got 2 beautiful vintage Case whittlers for the price of one cheap one because it came up plural (i.e:whittlers) instead of singular (whittler) and hardly anyone bid on it!

Charlie, I'll keep an eye out for hidden punch/harness jacks. I go by dzignboss over there, A holdover from a different line of work.

SHS, I've been meaing to tell you that I appreciate your sig line. I tell folks I was raised by a dog. Actually she was more like a nanny when I was a wee fellow. My current heart stealing pooch is what we call a bleuweiller. She's part Blue Heeler and part Rottie. 52 lbs of lap dog, cute as can be and with near Rottie jaw pressure. I named her Andi so when someone says, "Hey, Amos! Where's Andy?" I can whistle and reply, "Here she is. BITE 'EM GIRL!" :D
