Nice find Confederate! Ya' know, I graduated HS in 75, maybe you ought to send that my way as a (very) late graduation present.
Yep, ahgar, I don't know what is is about those yellow handles, but they do have an attraction. At least we don't suffer alone. Some of the patterns are a little too sharp edged on the bolsters and scales for my taste, but there's something about those handles.
Tarmix, I've already got the 3254 CV Trapper YH and an older Schrade 1940T single blade, liner lock trapper, so the slimline yellow handle should fit right in.
I missed the Stockman by 50 cents, but that's okay. It leaves me a chance to go after some others in some interesting bone scales before my blade buying budget is once again shot. It doesn't take much.
I've noticed I'm starting to be drawn to the jack-style patterns, either single or double blades on one end. I think I would have liked to have had the peanut, but am happy that of the two it was the trapper I snagged. The larger blades in single-ended slipjoints and the occasional liner lock are really starting to appeal to me while the Bear Paw/Buck 110 styles don't anymore.
I'm finding there are still certain double end patterns I'm being drawn to, but they are different from the ones I used to prefer, hence the earlier thread about changing tastes. I used to be a devout stockman carrier, now the pattern doesnt' feel as good in my hand. The canoe has always attracted me, but I've still to get my first one (maybe an CV Amber Bone soon <g>). As I mentioned in the past it was only recently I got my first sodbuster and we have become inseperable. The darn thing carries so easy I often have to check my pocket to make sure it is still there. I've also started eyeing whittlers, thanks to a thread a little while ago in this forum. See, ahgar, what goes around comes around <g>. And, I know I will have to get some congress patterns, probably small and medium sized ones. Oh yeah, and aren't those Daddy and Grandaddy Barlows just pure pleasure?
There isn't any real cure for this is there? A person may get on the wagon for years, but is sure to fall off someday only to bemoan all the great knives he/she got rid of. Oh well, the ones I'm acquiring/collecting don't cost as much as the guns I used to accumulate and they don't take up as much space. Yet.
I was wondering if anyone thinks it would be a good idea to share what they're handle is on ebay so if we see someone from here seriously going after a knife that we can live without we could back off for them? Good idea or bad?
If you folks will excuse me, I need to stroll down to the dock and see what a couple of pieces are doing at present.
Amos
P.S. The exchange? If I go there will I get addicted? For that matter, if a man speaks in the woods, but there is no one around, will a woman still manage to tell him he is wrong?
