I thought I would try and make the CS pipe hawk true to it's origin. I started with a brand new pipe hawk. I wanted the 22" handle for my 19" Trail hawk (Showing soon) so I swapped handles, then burned the top and bottom. I then burned 3 rings around the top of the haft just below where the newly fitted head would sit. For stain I tried 3 diffrent colors before I found Colonial Maple. Next I stripped and sanded the head and forced a patina on the head with Lemon juice and then White distilled vinager. I didn't like that look so I pulled out my trusty Cold blue and ran it over with a Q-tip. It aged very nicely. I also polished the edge and face of the "Pipe" to a mirror finish. I finished off with leather wrap, few carpet tacks, and brass button head pins on the haft. The coolest thing I did was the hammered copper cap on top of the haft. I still need to put streamers with feathers on it and then it will be done.

It looks very nice. I thought about drilling out the pipe part of the head to give it a more realistic look.

You would have to heat up the "bowl" to lose the temper, then drill. I thought about this too but trying to drill it with a flat bottom in the hole so you could still use it as a hammer poll.

Looks great....But I'am not sure about the fur under the head !

Looking good. I too have thought about making a usable bowl out of one of these hawks but the better sense got to me.
