Six months of Feather Shaves

I have just completed six months of shaving every day with Feather blades.

I have heard some people say that no man can possibly shave every day with Feather blades; your face would just fall off. According to these people, Feathers are just too sharp and too agressive for every-day use.

While I certainly do think that Feather blades are sharp and agressive and I discourage new DE shavers from starting with them, I don't think they're unusably sharp/agressive. In fact, I just about always get an excellent shave from them and enjoy using them.

I understand and accept that some guys may not have the same great results I get. For some guys, Feathers may, in fact, be too agressive for everyday shaving.

But, I still set out to prove that this statement that Feathers are too agressive for everyday shaving is NOT generally true.

And so I have now completed six months, 182, shaves with Feather Blades.

The results: my face did not fall off. In fact, I experienced no razor burn or irritation at all. No cuts and no nicks. Just one great shave after another after another after another. Six months of near-perfect shaves.

I use a two-pass shave, North-to-south (most with-the-grain) and then South-to-north (mostly against the grain). I use horizontal strokes on both my upper- and lower-lips. Sometimes, I need to do just a few strokes of "touch-up" before I'm done. This quick process gets me darn near the proverbial baby-butt-smooth shave. Certainly, it is a shave that is an order-of-magnitude better than anything I got from a cartrige. And this is my everyday shave.

So, while I again recognize that this may not be true for all guys, I now assert with full confidence that one can shave everyday with Feather blades both safely and to great results.

I don't use Feathers daily because even at the age of 43 I'm sometime prone to a few blemishes (zits, LOL) from time to time. This partly because of the medications I have to take daily. Oh well, the oily skin keeps me from getting wrinkles:D

Having said that, when I want the best, closest shave I can get I use Feathers:thumbup: They are just a tad too aggressive for me if I'm suffering an acne flair up.

As a side note, since I started using DE razors exclusively six months ago my flair ups are far fewer. I also used to be plagued with ingrown hairs and I find this to be a rare event now too. My DE shaving routine has definitely been better on my complexion.

You and me both. I'm a bit older than you (not much) and I still suffer acne. Several years ago, I went to a dematologist for a completely unrelated problem. While I was there, I complained about having acne problems and my age and asked if anything could be done. He said, "Be done? Yes! Give thanks. You have very oily skin. You will have acne for your entire life. BUT, you will never have wrinkles. Wash your face two or three times a day and use 10% benzoil peroxide cream when necessary."

Fortunately, now, when I do have active acne, it's usually just one or two pimples at a time and I just shave around them for a day or two untill the worst of the inflamation goes down.

I also have found that switching to DE getting on two years ago seems to have helped my complexion.

A long term review. Probably the best type. Did your opinion change at all over time? Personally it takes me some time to really get a correct opinion on something.

Have you guys been checked for diabetes?

I used to get zits all the time--once I got my sugars under control--the zits went away.

48 and fairly oily skin here too.

Just sayin.

Have been meaning to try Feathers but have been mostly working my way up from cheap to expensive blades---and Feathers seem to be the most expensive.

So far the Walmart Wilkie's have been excellent in my vintage Gillette's and Derby's in my Merkur--there's an Astra in the Merkur now--but its the first one I've tried.

If a blade exists that is better for me than Feather, then I'd like to find it!
I find no other blade as consistent or reliable and I've certainly seen and felt an improvement in skin tone since returning to DE shaving. Lathering with a brush plays a role in improved skin tone as well. Without the internet, I would've been unable to find creams blades or razors, shops just no longer keep that stuff in my part of Europe.

Really enjoyed my time here in the shaving forum as well.

Could just be tetracycline or something along those lines, with something requiring tetracycline it's usually worth the occasional acne :P

Have you guys been checked for diabetes? .

That is excellent information and it is good that you added it here. That could benefit others.

I get a complete physical with blood testing every few years and blood sugars are well within normal, so I don't think that is my problem. But that is a good thing for others experiencing similar problems to consider.

No diabetes here just a oily skin exacerbated by immunosuppressant medications for a kidney transplant of over 14 years. Blood work is done regularly:eek:

I agree with you. On a brand of razor blade, I insist on trying at least five blades over at least fifteen or twenty shaves before I'll say a word. (The only exception has been Crystal blades, those I reached judgement on in just about five shaves... I now have a greater sympathy for the Palistinians because I too have known Israeli agression.)

Blades are variable. Even Feather has a bad one every now and then. And shaving is also variable. Plus, you really do need to get your technique "dialed in" with a blade before making any judgement.

Feather blades? I just love 'em even more now. This last Sunday, I started with a new Feather and I thought I didn't get it in correctly or something. But then I realized that it was just so perfect that you absolutely felt no resistance, nothing, as it shaved perfectly cleanly. What a blade, what a blade... two absolutely top shaves. Now, I'm back to 99% shaves. But that is what Feather gives. The day-to-day shave is just effortless and wonderful.

But, I still only get about four shaves from a Feather. They just don't have much endurance. I can settle for that, though.

I've gone exclusively Feather since my Don't fear the Feather post a while back.

Other blades pull and tug while leaving my face more stubbly.

Feathers, for me anyway, represent the best DE blade option.

Feathers are the best bar none! Took me a while to learn to allow the weight of the razor to do the work and not press the razor against my face. I do a three pass shave daily, North South, then across the grain and finish with against the grain.
