To me anyway. I like some of the Syderco Knives but it seems like 4" is large for them unlike Cold Steel. I'm thinking most people like the smaller knives, and yet CS seems to sell a lot of the L/XL sizes. Another reason I like CS I guess.

I like large knives that carry small, Spyderco K2 checks all the boxes for me, their Tatanka is the next folder on my list.
I like the original ColdSteel Recon line but a lot of their XL stuff is borderline absurdly large for daily carry.

Think the Tatanka was just discontinued recently. Might be able to find some lower than map pricing now.

Lowest I've seen is ~$180 . I wouldn't pay even half that . Cold Steel has a far better and proven lock , better steel and superior design . Less expensive and better value . I carry two of the 5.5 " bladed CS most of the time I've got pants on . No trouble at all , even in shorts .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Borderline?

When it's easier to conceal a handgun than a 'pocket' knife, that 'pocket' knife is absurdly large.
Handgun is unlawful concealed without a license(good luck with that here),XL Espada & 9" Tanto OK to carry(I do all the time).

It's not unlawful everywhere and....

I wasn't comparing the two, I was saying that any knife that's harder to conceal than a handgun is effing big, not 'borderline' effing big.

Sticking a shield under your belt is easy, hiding an XL Espada is harder (and less comfortable if you're going for in the waistband). The coldsteel XL knives are huge, no doubts about it.

I like big knives, but there's no way the XL knives from Cold Steel are 'borderline' absurdly large.

Are you referring to the actual "XL" size Espada ? Yes that one is huge but it's the ONLY CS folder of that size . The "L" large Espada is still big , with a 5.5" blade but I carry it everyday along with an XL Talwar 5.5 " blade . Maybe "absurd " for you , easy and comfy for me ! Tried carrying the Rajah 5.5" , but never got to the point of "didn't know it was there " . The biggest Holdout 6" and Voyagers 5.5" are no problem to carry either . Really just what you're used to or feels right to you .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Couldn't agree more. I hate this industry-wide trend toward 3.5-inch or smaller blades. I really like larger knives, and Cold Steel has always cornered that market. These days, it's hard to find another company making even one folder with a five- or six-inch blade, let alone multiple models.

The Tatanka is a nice knife. Buy what you like, of course, but pay attention to the Tatanka's weight. Almost none of Cold Steel's large knives weighs as much.

To each his own. I think absurdity is in the eye of the beholder. Depending on your use, a big knife has certain advantages over a small knife, including the ability to make cuts that a smaller knife can't accomplish.

I don't find these knives absurdly large at all (pen included for scale). They pocket well, and I think they're beautiful in form and function.

Being a fan of Spyderco and Cold Steel I m afraid I have to agree. Especially with the "less expensive and better value" assertion.

I like 4-inch blades on folders but they are few and far between. Thus I really like my old-timey Cold Steel Voyager with its 4-inch VG-1 blade and Zytel handle. That said, I also really like my XL Voyager, clip point, with its 5 1/4-inch blade (yeah, they say it's 5 1/2 inches, but it isn't). In fact, I like the XL so much I carry it a lot. Size-to-weight-to-strength and cutting ability puts everything else I have to shame.

Some days i carry a large folder just for fun, some days i just carry a 2" keychain knife. One of my favorite spydercos is the Manix 2 XL. Compared to my other larger CS folder it's the smallest ones.
Folding machete added just for fun.

Yes the 4 inchers are the most practical in my real world use applications. But I still like the option of the over sizers.

How you liking those snaggleteeth?

I like the 4 inch blades. I only have one xl folder, the Holdout1. It carries small for its size, but it is bigger than I usually need.
