Sizes for the basket weave stamps

From the choices you have indicated, I would prefer either the C425 or C428 (Probably the C425)
and the basket stamp I believe I would chose the X500. It's small enough to fit into smaller areas but will also look great in larger areas.

Thank you very much Paul. Just the answer I needed! ;)

Sheaths I finished up last night. They and their knives shipped this morning. This is the second half of the batch I was working on the first half had already shipped on Monday. I tend to use three basket stamps over and over. These three:

To my eye a small one like the bottom works best on small areas. If ya do to big an area with a small one it starts looking busy to my eye. Conversely the two larger ones don't look right in a smaller area. The top and bottom ones are Horseshoe Brand stamps and don't have numbers. The middle one is from Siegel Leather (went out of business in 2008) and is numbered X513. This hourglass basket stamp is the one I use the most. If given the choice (sometimes the customer is specific) I choose it over the other two all the time. For me its easier to hide any little mistakes. I dislike any of the angled basket stamps. Just don't look right to me.

Dave! Thank you for the reply :)

I was wondering what those hourglass shaped ones were for so thank you for clearing that up. I've tried stamping with a veiner to decorate my last sheaths but I couldn't get it quite right so I think I will go for the hourglass one for the basket.

Actually while you're here is it OK if I try and make a pancake sheath like you? I just thought its polite ask just in case it was a patent design of yours. :)

Of course, no patent or anything and thanks for asking. What I do try to encourage folks to do is to make it your own some way if ya can. Tweak it some way. I didn't invent the pancake sheath but mine have become pretty recognizable when seen, a distinct style. I forgot to mention that the camo border tool I use (almost exclusively) is the Craftool Pro #2131. I like it better than even some others I have that cost 2 or 3 times as much.

Thanks guys. Yes it is 4th from the right, bottom row, if I remember correctly.

Thank you very much Dave :)

I'm currently hoping to use guitar fish inlays and have a shallowish pocket so I could get the last 2 fingers on the knife so hopefully that would add a touch of my individuality to it :)

Thank you all very much for your help. I really do feel like I'm standing on the shoulders of giants!

Good deal Kaizo, if ya can take pics throughout and post a wip. Naw Daniel looks like Fed Ex took the long way to MN via Memphis. Just ran the tracking looks like Monday.

In a way its the missing link between a stingray and a shark. Most people find it rather odd when they hear that stingray and shark are from the same family because they look so different but this fish basically has a head of a ray and a body of a shark.

In fact many traditional Japanese craftsman (katana, armour etc...) uses the word shark skin for both actual shark skin and rayskin because they are so closely related.

It has the same bony texture as stingray but the grains seems to be smaller. Fingers crossed it will behave itself this time! :D

dave's tips will improve your workmanship ... trust me ... My tooled leather looked like crap until i read on casin leather (impprtant) on his "how to" thread and border stamping tips.

Absolutely, he has already helped me on many of occasions and I can't thank him enough for it! ;)

Thanks guys, glad I can help. Heck no wonder. Have to be fishing in Loch Ness to catch something like that. I never fished there. However he certainly yields a pretty cool piece of leather. Like to see those inlays.

Haha I would recommend nothing short of a harpoon if you're going after that beast! :P

Yup I'll post them up as soon as I've made them! Thanks for the help again :)
