I Just received my first Busse, a olv/black SJ Tac. Very impressive:thumbup: .
I emailed a couple of the Sheath makers on the Busse sight and one of them got back to me with a quote of close to $60 including S&H:( . So then I wondered if there were a lower cost production knife that is similar in dimension to the SJ so that I could use the same Sheath for both knives. So that is my question for all of you Hogs. Is there a knife/sheath combo that I could also use for the SJ? OR is there someplace online that has a large variety of production sheaths?

Thanks

If you're buying a quality knife, then why not save your pennies for a bit and buy a quality sheath? I'm sure it would be worth the money in the end :)

I have to agree with C500. Don't risk and ill fitting sheath for your new tool. $60 is not that much for a sheath. Were you looking for leather, kydex or nylon? I know all the work of all the sheathmakers listed there and you can bet on the quality you will get from any of them for the $. I personally will probably be turning to Dan at Semper Paratus for a rig to carry mine in. I do my own kydex and leather work, but nylon is beyond me.

Congrats on your first Busse. You could buy a combat master sheath made by Spec Ops Brand for $34.95 which is nylon with a kydex liner and is available in 4 colors. The large size would fit your SJ TAC nicely.

Since you know there is merit to buying a quality item as you sprung for one of the finest knives out there, why not go the extra yard and get a quality sheath to compliment your Busse? $60 shipped for a custom sheath by any of the makers listed on the Busse site is reasonable in my opinion and i can be cheap!! :D

I appreciate all of your feedback. After looking at some of the Spec Ops stuff it looks like I'd only save about $20 going this route. So in this case the custom would be worth it.

I also haven't realy found a Knife/sheath combo that would do the trick, although this would still be my first choice. I would much rather get a decent knife/sheath combo over a realy nice custom sheath even if I had to pay a few bucks more.

One thing that I didn't mention was that not only was this my first Busse, but it was also the first knife I've purchased that has cost over $120  . So $60 for a sheath is a little hard to swallow.

I'll post pics once my decision arrives in the mail

Thanks again

Dont worry youll get over it and far surpass what you spent on that SJ Tac if you hang around here. I just bought a HOFSH and its the most Ive spent on a knife, 6 months ago I told myself I wouldnt spend over a hundred on one. I also just ordered a sheath for a RD that ran over $100. Some of these guys have spent so much on their knives I dont think they care to discuss it publicly.

It’s always good to have a couple of Spec Ops Combat Masters around. I’ve got my Satin Jack TAC in one at the moment, until Leatherman gets a pattern knife to work from.

The Spec Ops sheath is going to be a bit rattly (because of the imprecise fit), so I would suggest thinking about whether this is a problem for you.

It might be worth doing a search on heating and re-shaping kydex. A little bit of re-shaping would turn the Combat Master into a reasonable long-term option.

Given the opportunity, I always try to get a sheath specifically made for my knives.

There is nothing more annoying than the wear on the blade finish, rattling, and questionable retention that often come from using an all purpose/non-specific sheath.

What is the Spec Ops web site address? I remember the home page looks like a treasure map but that's about it.

Others have already said it, but I agree - if you actually want to carry one of these great knives, you'll just get annoyed and frustrated with a sheath that does not work well. I agree that it can strain the budget if you are like me and have limited funds, but if the knife is worth it (which of course it is), so is a quality sheath.

Here's one I got from Porkducci. His picture. Okuden sheath.
