Guys. I hope you don't mind the frequency of my recent posts. But, the mind's running wild on Busse options. So, here's a question for you... why would you choose the BaTac over the SjTac and vice-versa?

Thanks.

Both are great! You can't go wrong with either. The BATAC might be easier to get.

BATAC, well, because I had one, I like the blade shape better, but thats a personal choice. If you want a longer knife you get SJTAC, if you want a shorter knife you get BATAC

Also here is a good reason to get a BATAC

Thanks guys.

So... both BaTac and SjTac share the same handle? From the pictures/vids... is it safe to assume that the BaTac is a bit handle heavy? While the SjTac is better balanced?

Thanks.

Get a SJTAC.

And if you want a shorter knife, get a RMD (Ratmandu from Swamp Rat). I personally would skip the BATAC. At best, I "might" (not me personally) consider the BATAC "AFTER" the SJTAC and RMD.

The RMD is much better for a 5" - 5.5" blade compared to the BATAC - IMO.

I personally LOVE the SJTAC's blade shape and feel the SJTAC is a great mid-size knife GREAT at many tasks. So, is the RMD. But, with the SJTAC being just a bit larger than the RMD.

The BATAC never did it for me. But, Just my opinion, and opinions are a dime a dozen. Many love the BATAC. I didn't.

The RMD is awesome "as-is" from the factory. About the only way to improve the RMD (IMO) is to make it SATIN. But, again, that is my opinion. Many here like coatings (?????????????????????????????????). I like satin, but still after MANY years can't justify what Jerry charges for Busse LE's. Some can. To each their own. I think Busse satin blades are way too much mark-up. I don't care about LE numbers. I prefer the "Reasonable" mark-up of $20 - $30 per blade from Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard - depending on size. Unfortunately, the RMD was never offered in SATIN. I WISH it were.

IMO, the SJTAC needs the ramp removed - same on the BATAC. The RMD's ramp works great. But again, just my opinion.

Strong Margarita working. Hope that made sense.

Good luck.

I sold my batac's when I got the SAR5. I just liked it better. The SJTAC is still one I carry and use. It is very well balanced vs. the batac.

DWRW is correct about the Ratmandu. It is fantastic. You really should order one...

Both are great knives! Have never owned an SJTAC but prefer the BATAC blade style and think the overall size is a perfect non-chopping all-a-rounder! The BATAC is now my favorite Busse after having parted with mine:grumpy::D

I have both. They are both great knives. I carry both regularly. Today, I'm carrying the SJTAC.

I have had several of both and love them. The BATAC is my choice for balance, blade profile and the length is perfect for me. I carry mine while hiking and it accompanies my CGFBM for camp duties. I am anxious to try it on a deer or elk this year too.
The SJTAC is more slender, still has excellent balance and like near perfection for many blade fighting styles.
YMMV.

I have used both to dress pronghorn antelope, and both performed well. The SJTAC feels more pointy than the BATAC, partly due to the blade length, and partly due to its width. The handles are the same. Which one is best for you depends on you, not our collective opinions.

When you need a knife, half the battle is simply having a knife.

Well said.

I have both as well. (Both are LE- which would make a difference if you went with a narrower blade for either.)
it depends upon the day which one I carry.
The batac, is a bit handle heavy, however when you use it it feels like there is no blade, it just kinda floats. (think lightsaber- but with INFI)
With the sjtac you feel the blade just a bit, but you don't get the floating sensation.
Both have very usable choils, which works out nice- almost 2 blades for the price of one.
I'd pick based on blade shape and length.

The BATAC is by far my favorite.

I've had 2 CG BATACs, a 2007 SE BATAC (same as LE, but DC w/ diff slabs), a CG SJTAC, and since it was mentioned, a RMD.

I sold my SJTAC after I got the BATACs, mainly because the BATAC was the first TAC handle to be offered in Mags, and the Mags actually made that much of a difference to me. They make the knife seem much more solid in my hand.

The blade length also makes the knife feel better to me. It's less of a fighter feel and more of a utility knife feel. This in the 3/16" CG stock makes it one of the best knives I've owned. Sadly, the 2007 SE was sold as well, but between the two thicknesses, the CG won out easily for a dedicated user.

Oh, and the RMD? Well, it's interesting how different people react to different knives. I think some of the greatest knives I own are my BATAC, S5, and HRLM. My RMD should be right there with them, right? Well, it's not. Most people love them, and it would seem like the perfect knife on paper, but for some reason that I've not been able to figure out yet, it just doesn't have that "wow" factor for me.

Guys,

I really appreciate your input here. Still... you guys make it difficult to decide which to try first (can't do both at the same time).

How about some eye-candy? Maybe someone out there can post a couple of comparison pics of an SjTac and BaTac (with an ASH thrown in just for good measure)?

Thanks much!

:D
