My SJTAC is looking very well loved and I'm thinknong of removing what's left of the coating to reveal that beautiful INFI!

Anyone got a pic of one they've done and maybe some tips?

Here's my thread about stripping my FFBM:

A pic of my NMSFNO after the strip job:

And a thread about stripping: what type to use, and tips

As for tips:
1) If you use the stripper that's in the bottom link, wear gloves, it is the only stripper I've found that burns when it touches you, and it burns like hell sometimes.

2) When it comes to sanding, be patient, that decarb is hard to get off sometimes.

3) If you have some places that you really want to shine, be creative on how to do that. I wanted my NMSFNO's spine and talon holes to shine, so I put green buffing compound on a flexible peice of leather and on a small leather strap and kept rubbing it until it really shined. I don't know how much you want your SJTAC to shine, but that's what worked for me.

Hope some of that stuff helps.

Cheers mate! Can you buy buses style rivets after market ? Failing that do you know which hexbolts fit!

I don't know, both of the knives I've stripped I've left the scales on. I'm sure you can find tubes though however they might be hard to find, but I don't know

Yes, it is basically 1/4 inch stainless steel tubing, and you can find it from a variety of sources. Then you just need to set up a makeshift rivet press (assuming you don't have an actual rivet press, or arbor press).

People use bench vises to do the trick with cut off screw heads and a lubricant to flare. You can also use brass tubing, which some of the old school knives have, but it won't be quite as strong as the stainless, from what I understand.

Here is one tutorial, there are others (this one is now missing the pics).

here is another with a very simple set up!
