SK! GSO for smaller hands?

Hey guys, I have been considering getting my first GSO and have noticed that these knives tend to have fairly lengthy and large handles(especially the new spec). I have smaller hands(generally medium sized winter gloves and mechanics gloves) and am wondering if anyone with smaller hands can comment on the handle size and comfort with the new spec GSO's. Some in hand pics would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate it:thumbup:

I prefer the length of the 1st gen mid size 5/5.1/6 handle for the rare time I would use my thumb over the back of the handle.
That being said my 4.7 is by far the most comfy handled knife I have ever owned.
I wear large gloves and find the 1st gen 4.1 handle size about as small as I want to go comfort wise.
Hope that helps a little-

Thanks for the reply Psybull:thumbup:

Here is a pic of my hand on my stock Esee 4 for scale. Sorry for the poor shot, I just took a quick one.

Im 5'5", and gso old spec is the most comfortable handle size of any knife ive ever owned. Most knives, the handle is soooo damn long for me. Like all large busse knives. Theres like an extra 1" 1/2 handle length i dont need. But gso old spec is perfect. And ive heard this from alot of other people too.

You should be fine with nearly every S!K if the ESEE 4 is comfortable to you.

I wear SZ M gloves from Outdoor research (O.R. is similar to Mechanix) for shooting and some outdoor activities when I want to have a better tangible feel of what I'm doing but by the same token, when gardening or just indelicate kind of stuff, I can also wear a SZ L. That said, I can tell you that I also prefer the older handles and hence why I've gotten rid of perfectly fine and newer generation of GSOs which I have been picking up on Mondays Sales as on April 2016 and yet have been busing the older generation of GSOs on the secondary markets for a premium.

Although, I prefer the fit and the finish of those older ones as compared to these newer 2016 versions but will also settle fine on the next generation GSOs with the Delta 3V heat treat. I just hope the S!K would consider toning down this peened finish or the Cerakoting or whatever it is called!

Guy seems to like a blemish free finish, and I think that the current process gives him more control.
The CruforgeV 4.7 is the only current generation knife with a coating.
Since the handles can be removed there isn't any reason why you can't tumble your blade in a box of rocks if you want more texture. :)

Don't give him any ideas! First the sharpening stuff, now a tumbler, he is going to open a mod shop at this rate!

Thanks for all the replys guys:thumbup:.

Will the 4.5 Bushcraft have the new "Delta" heat treatment? What are the benefits of this HT compared to the old one? I guess its handle will be smaller then the 4.1/4.7 due to the thinner stock and blade height? Its the model I am most interested in due to its thinner stock and finer tip. Thanks again guys.

The handle on the new 4.1 and the 4.5 should be very similar at 5 inches long, though not sure if it will be thinner due to the blade thickness or if thicker handle slabs will be used. The new heat treatment will be used on all 3v from the 4.1 on in the production runs, so yes the 4.5 will have it.
You should check out the thread on new heat treatments for the 3v in this forum as there are links to some very good videos describing the perks of Delta 3v.

I wear size small or medium, depending on the glove. I don't find the new 5.1 handle to be uncomfortable. There is quite a bit more there than I need, but not uncomfortable. I would prefer the scales to be less rounded in the swell, so it would index better. But that is a personal preference, not something that makes it uncomfortable.

Thanks for the reply Psybull:thumbup:. Yeah, I was thinking the 4.1 and 4.5 handles would be similar other then the blade thickness like you mention and the handles should be thinner height wise too because the stock is 1/8th thinner(1.125 vs 1.25") on the 4.5. Thanks for the heads up on the thread, I will look for it. What is the title as there appears to be multiple threads on HT? Thanks again.

Thanks man, that helps. It sounds like your hands are a bit smaller then mine so, it shouldnt be a problem even if I get a larger GSO one day.
