After this earlier thread, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=432343 , I thought I would rewrap my SK handle tonight and take some pics along the way. You'll have to excuse me if this isn't exactly clear as I've been having some Johnnie along the way
First double over some cord. Have the fold in the cord about an inch or so further towards the tip than where you would like the wrap to end. Have one end of the cord hanging about 6 inches off the butt end of the knife.
Start wrapping the handle just a hair towards the lanyard hole from where the bottom handle hollow is. Use your thumb to keep the cord in place. The tighter you can wrap this now, the better.
Continue wrapping the rest of the way up the handle. Again, THE TIGHTER THE BETTER!
When you get to where you want your wrap to end, thread the end of the cord through the loop created by the folded end of cord. Use the length of cord at the butt end to pull the loop snug.
Cut down the "loop end" of cord down as much as possible and pul the loop as tight as you can. If you have wrapped the handle tightly, you shouldnt be able to pull the end under the wrap. If you prefer it to be neater, you can lighten up slightly on the wrap so the you can pull then end underneath. (having tried both ways, I prefer to have the wrap as tight as possible. The nub sticking out doesn't bother me.) Cut the "butt end" length of cord down to the wrap. Having started the wrap right at the hollow, you can tuck this underneath the wrap, into the hollow, using a toothpick.
I use a lighter on the "nub" that is sticking out just to melt it down.
Here's a side shot so you can see how much extra thickness this adds to the handle.
As a side note, your cats will love this.
