Well i tested my sk5 trailmaster and am very pleased with it's performance! I tested it on water bottles, cardboard, hickory, oak, pine and bean cans. The edge did not chip or roll and the blade would still shave afterwards! Now i did not do a lot of chopping but i did enough to know that this is a very good knife with good heat treat. It also look's nothing like most of my Bowies as the blade is not very wide only about an inch and a half making it very easy to carry unlike most of my clumsy blades...but the spine is very thick @ 5/16" and the flat grind bites as deep as my much larger Bowies and it cuts with little effort! I do believe that i will finally be able to carry and use a prc knife without being ashamed of the stamp. I hope to see a Noss4 test on this knife!

Glad to hear that. I have been considering this knife for a while now.

If it didnt say china on the tang(which i scratched square & blackened it so i dont have to look at it),its almost identical in size ,shape, & heft to the carbon v version. it is just as sharp as the carbon v one, & theres not a flaw on it.grind lines & edge are identical, too. i got it so i didnt have to beat up my carbon v & satin trailmaster.if it wasnt sk5 i wouldnt have gotten it. had an sk5 tigershark so i knew it was good steel. for around 80.00, its the best 9 1/2" bowie out there for the money,as much as i dont like where it came from.:barf:i;m sure the recon scout is similar in quality.

I did the exact same thing! Right after i tested it and found it to be superb quality, i then scratched and gently sanded the stamp off and blackened it with g 96.

There are quite a few out there these days.

That may be however i wouldn't buy a stainless one to use from there... i do have a couple china bowies as display pieces eeeerrrrr i forgot i did test the big coffin handled import of 420 stainless from ank and it went through water bottles and wood with ease but the blade is fully flat ground and only about 3/16" at the spine. every china stainless folder i have tested has been junk! I have had pocket clips snap as well as frame locks snap and they dont hold an edge that is if you can sharpen it in the first place! I do plan to obtain an entire collection of Cold Steels 1055 and sk5 chinese blades after testing this beast! CS has a very strict quality control over steel and heat treat i dont care what people claim as i have several of their blades and they are all top quality! one other china knife i have that holds an edge and cuts well is the taylor schrade sharpfinger although others claim theirs are junk.

(sdt11670) ha! i thought i;d be the only one to do that!:D i guess we find that word to represent junk & be embassassing.now its sterile!(joshua j)your right on that, but i;m a big fan of the trailmaster, its the only knife i ever bought from china, hopefully that will be it!

Yeah...CS's SK5 is great! I LOVE that steel! Sharpens up to a razor, and you can beat the hell out of it! Tough stuff.

Keep buying stuff made in China, someday you'll have to move there to find a job.

Really, you can find much better knives made in the U.S. for almost same price.

I have raised @#$% about china knives for years and claimed them all to be junk but have also stated that i would consider buying good carbon bladed knives from that country and it's not that i needed another knife or couldn't afford another American made knife (lord knows i have tons of good ole usa steel) it's just that i have this freaking incurable disease that makes me buy carbon steel knives and guns! And after testing this one my sick diseased brain has told me to purchase one of each cold steel made in china carbon steel blades. Now if you have a cure for this illness please let me know as i am sure i would be better off just saving my money... but wait i cant take money with me either when i die so i may as well enjoy guns and knives while i'm here

It's not that I consider China made products to be junk, the people over there are quite capable of putting out high quality. I’m sure your knife is a good representation of that.
However.
It's been said a million times before and I think is worth saying again, that when we purchase products from China or similar countries we encourage our businesses and corporations to invest in those countries. This trend will eventually lead to a crisis (and already has, depending on who you look at).

I think it best not to promote knives made in countries with a lack of standards.

Aahaha do you guys cut off the Made In China tags on your clothes and everything you use everyday too?

Guilty! I at one time even threw out everything in my kitchen and living room that was made in china... I only had USA made knives and a few german blades.

I dont think it matters whether we support American companies doing business overseas because the profit margin is huge! Not very many people that use knives are knife nuts and the majority of people dont even think about the country of origin they see a knife they like and it's cheap so they buy it.
