I'm in the market for a casual dress watch for around $150, I was wondering if Skagen watches are any good. If not could I get any recommendations on some good watches that aren't bulky (like the various Divers) and if possible the band and face made of Ti.

Thanks

I have never owned a Skagen but know someone that has. She has never had any problems with her watch in over 5 years. They are compact and beautifully designed. I like them but I really value being able to see my watch in the dark and I don't believe that Skagens shine in that area (no pun intended). I also do a lot of things in the water and that is another area that I don't know much about the Skagens. The do look great though...especially in Ti. Keep us posted if you get one. -Alan

Skagen is Costume Jewelry... at that price range, watch nuts say that the only thing to get is the Seiko Divers Automatic. Unfortunately, it's bulky as you described.

I've got a Skagen titanium with white face, mesh bracelet and date that I got for around $99, and I think I had a coupon for about 10% off. Supposedly it is water-resistant, although I've never tested that feature. I've worn it almost every day for over 6 months and it looks like new. It works fine, is practically weightless (my favorite feature), and looks good. If you're a budding watch fetishist, you may as well save your money for something more expensive. If you just need a watch, and like the way they look, the Skagens are a good value.

Skagens are nice, but keep in mind some of them don't have bezels and the crystal edge is exposed. This makes it extremely easy to ding and chip.

Also, check the water resistance on the model you're interested in. I had one that was water resistant to 15 feet or some such nonsense, which ends up meaning "Take it off before you wash your hands."

I was looking to get this one, I do wish they were automatic rather then quartz, but for the price of this I don't think that will be happening anytime soon. I just need a watch that is very slim, and lightweight. It's not going to need to withstand much beating since I will probably be busy with school for the next 9 months rather then working. Are there any decent watches around 200 dollars that can offer this?

It's mighty tough to find an auto as thin as a Skagen. Some of the Pateks and JLC's, I'm sure...

3ATM WR is 66 feet. Basically means you shouldn't shower with it on.

For your criteria, most of your commercial quartz options will be open to you. Automatics won't. The Skagen is a fine choice if you're looking for thin.

So is the Swatch Skin (and I bet it's lighter)... but I doubt that's what you're in the market for.

I have a recommendation for you. I purchased a St. Moritz Titan II earlier this year. The watch is quite exceptional. Mine has remained accurate to within a second over the course of almost 6 months now. Amazing accuracy to say the least. The price is $174.95 with the excellent kevlar band. The titanium band will cost you an extra $50.00, but you can by it when you have the extra cash.

1. Anti-glare coated sapphire crystal
2. Citizen Myota movement
3. Analog chronograph
4. 100 meter water resistance
5. Thin titanium case
6. Illumination equal to Seiko
7. Screw-down crown
8. very accurate alarm

But it here

I'm unsure of Skagen brand watches, but I do own some Citizen Eco-Drives and a St.Moritz Pathfinder Ti, both of which are great watches for the price range you've indicated. I'm sorry for not answering your question, I know what it's like when you ask a question about one thing and someone answers with something unrelated, but if you have the time you might want to consider as many different types and brands of watches as possible before you spend your hard-earned money. Good luck!

I'm with Don Luis. I own 3 Eco-Drives. No winding, no battery, no hassle. They just run and run on solar power.

The Citizen and Seiko watches seem to all be really bulky, if not showy at times. I think I might go with the St. Moritz Titan II, it looks like a very nice watch and with the features it seems like a very good buy.

I would second Buzzbait on a St. Moritz. My wife has the Ti Pathfinder and it's a great deal for the money. LIght on the wrist, attractive, 100M water resistant and the alarm to boot. Can be had for < $ 100 with rubber band.

Yeah, that Pathfinder is perfect, thank you Sox and Buzzbait and everyone else for the recommendations and feedback.(The Titan II will come later).

One word about the Pathfinder, Ethelred- don't expect the "superluminous technology" to be any better than any other reputable watch manufacturer's luminescent markers, at least on the black faced one. I sent my Pathfinder back for a scheduled service (battery change, pressure test, etc.) and I'm also replacing the black dial with the white one (and replacing the hands) to see if it will be any brighter. You now have the option of getting these with sapphire crystals, which is an upgrade definitely worth considering. I learned about St.Moritz watches on this forum as well. For the money, the Pathfinder is a really nice watch, and it's so light you will forget you have it on your wrist.

I am very happy with my Skagen titanium, steel link band, blue face. It's a dress watch in my opinion, if I'm going camping I wear something else (a St. Moritz Himalaya, incidently, which I also like a lot). Both are under $100, lightweight and do what I want most--tell time.

That Titan II is pretty sweet though!
