I've been packing a Charge for a while & would like something more simple & compact.
How's the Skeletool CX? Likes, dislikes?

Nice EDC , but very different from the Charge . Charge is a Knife athached to a pair of pliers . Skeletool is a pair of pliers attached to a knife . The pliers are much more light duty than those on a charge .

Used with the right understanding , and within limits it's a good piece of kit .

I dont know a multi-toll more simple or compact that can handle the jobs I need done. Especially with the bit kit

I edced a skeletool for a while. after i decided that i needed scissors on my multitool i had to change to something a bit bigger. I do love the skeletool though. it's a great pair of light/medium duty pliers and the bit driver is great.

Had the regular Skeletool, but it was a lemon. Most people though, are real happy with theirs.

Leatherman customer service sorted me out promptly though

I have a CX and my son has the regular version, they are both fantastic IMO!

I've carried mine daily without any problems and I really like it!! Carry with either a pocket clip or a carabineer, nice!

I have a regular Skeletool that I EDC'd for a year now and have enjoyed and used it more than any other of the many multi's I have. The weight and clip are major factors in it's handiness and the blade geometry is surprisingly efficient. I was worried it would be too lightweight to handle many of my day to day activites, but it has gotten by just fine. It also serves as my handout knife when someone ask to borrow one. I carry a regular knife that I don't hand out and a Micra in my phone pouch for the scissors. There's also a full sized multi-tool in the bag for bigger jobs. I decided on the regular version because I prefer the plain blade and don't need ATS-34 in a multi-tool that I'm going to abuse.

I EDCed a CX for about a year and a half and loved it but like PropthePoleCat snapped the jaws. LM replaced it with a brand new one. It is a prefect tool for light everyday stuff. My gripe is that when they replaced it they sent me one with a PE blade. It was the only combo edge I carried and actually liked. It makes a loaner if you have something nicer in your pocket and someone asks for a knife. I have been carrying a Spirit for about two weeks now and am hooked but I am sure the CX will still see a lot of EDC duty.

About sums it up for me. I do with I'd gotten the 154cm steel though. I hate anything that's 420 series. The store didn't have it in stock at the time.

I love the skeletool cx but did make two tweaks to mine. First, the corner of the stop on the back of the blade would gouge me every time I put my hand in my pocket so a little light filing remedied that.
Second, the extra holes in the blade past the thumb hole were just silly and filled with dirt and food particles so I filled them in flush with JB weld.
Couldn't be happier with it now.

The newer cx's are shipping with plain edge blades. I think im in the minority, I like the combo edge better myself.

FWIW, I tried to buy a plain edge blade for my CX but they won't sell them to you. If something doesn't break on it I will have to buy another.

The pliers on the CX are on the light side. I live on a hobby farm and run into lots of things they won't handle as well as the the old Supertool. What they are great at is cutting baling wire, striping electrical wire, and using the pliers for twisting baling wire. I cook on an open fire a bit and they are good pot holders so far. As others have noted for light use I think the Skeletool is just great.

I usually carry a Charge (XTi), but recently switched over to carrying the skeletool cx (combo blade) and a Juice XE6. The Juice hangs in my back pocket on a chain, the skeletool clips onto my front belt loop. This combo really works out well, plus since everything is hanging from my belt into my pockets, there's no real added weight When you think about it, the XE6 has more tools than any full sized Leatherman! Plus, I get the great blade on the Skeletool, along with all the bits that fit the driver. Many times I've found myself in a situation where you need a pair of pliers AND a screwdriver, or two pairs of pliers -- carrying two smaller multitools solves that problem! The Charge now rests in my man-bag for when I need something a little heavier-duty.

I highly recommend the Skeletool CX -- the thing is wicked-sharp!

Edit: The only thing that I don't like about the Skeletool is all those damn holes! Junk does get caught in them and they also give the tool a "tacti-cool" look that I don't like. I'll have to try Hoopster's trick.
