Hi all,

While looking up places to purchase a Leatherman Skeletool CX, I noticed some show pictures of a partially serrated main blade and others show it with no serrations. In fact, one site shows both in the same photo sequence.

Closer examination showed the photo was actually of a Skeletool (non-CX) but was black/ carbon fiber like the CX.

Serrated Non-CX (although it's from the CX ad) but in black/ CF

Non Serrated standard CX

Leatherman's site does not show the Skeletool with a black/ CF option, but ebay has some "CX's" with the serrated blade.

Was this a design change at some point?

Does anyone know if the Skeletool is /was sold as a black/ CF option?

Searched here, but couldn't find an answer.

Thanks in advance.

When Leatherman first came out with the Skeletool line, the Skeletool CX featured a partially serrated, 154cm blade, and the regular ss skeletool featured a plain blade. I believe that due to customer request Leatherman decided to change it so the CX featured a plain blade and the ss one featured a partially serrated blade.

a lot of places still use the original photo of the skeletool with the serrated blade. unless it's been sitting around the warehouse for ages you are going to end up with the non-serrated blade.

That was my thought as well.

I'd prefer the partially serrated blade, but also like the black/ CF combo.....

I think they changed it when the freestyle came out. the freestyle cx has a plain 154 cm steel blade the same as the skeletool so they stopped them in combo edge. the regular skeletool (not the cx) will now come combo edge and the cx will be plain.

The original Cx was one of the few applications where a partially serrated blade is a good idea . No matter how you slice it , the Skelletool and Freestyle are cool little tools , enjoy .

Thought I'd update this thread.

I purchased a couple of Skeletools off of eBay that showed the combo blade. I confirmed with the seller that they, indeed, had the partially serrated blade as shown in the photos. He responded that they were older stock and were the combo blade.

So I bought two.

They arrived yesterday as described. :)
