hey guys
i recently lost my leatherman skeletool and im trying to decide whether to simply get another, or try one another company's equivalent. i really liked the leatherman's one hand opening blade. the only thing that bothered my about the leatherman was that the pocket clip started getting caught on things and eventually bent out because it is so thin. any thoughts on the skeletool or comparisons to other multitools?

Well, if you liked the Skeletool, I suspect you will not like the competition. There is nothing quite like it. I had one but for me, while it was one of the coolest looking and designed tools, at the end of the day, for me, it was a pocket knife with pliers more than a bone fide multitool...so I sold it. However, as far as that goes, it was a superb little tool, with a great knife blade, pretty decent ergonomics, and nice little pliers.

If you are reticent about the Skeletool, you may want to move up the Leatherman line and get one with more tools...that's probably what I will do. I was torn between the biggies...the new Supertool 300 and the Surge. The 300 has more tools but the Surge has the one-hand opening, open when closed knife blades...so that's what I got. I will probably get a small Leatherman with a few more tools than my now sold Skeletool. In my opinion, anything made by others that is much like the Skeletool will not make a Leatherman fan very happy. Victorinox is the only brand that comes close and they've got nothing like the Skeletool that I can think of.

I have a Wave, Supertool 300, and a Freestyle. I really don't care too much for the FS and it is basically the Skeletool with an extra strap cutter/clip. The larger multitools are far more useful. I relegated the FS to my 1st Aid kit that rides in my car.

I carried a skeletool hanging off my flack jacket by that little clip for a while, I bent the hell out of it but I was able to take it off and bend it back into shape pretty easily. I've been more careful since and its still my multi tool of choice. I just wish I had waited to get the plain edge version, I hate serrations. If you didn't get the CX version the first time you might want to look into grabbing one of those. The 154cm blade is pretty sweet definitely worth the extra $ in my opinion. I still carry mine at work every day.

Great little tool. Instead of using the clip, I usually hang it from my belt loop with the caribiner. Also, you didn't mention wich model you had - the CX is awesome.

CX is awesome! I carry my Ti Charge (with gut hook) every day though.

I've got the regular skeletool, a kick and a fuse- plus some others - The skeletool probably gets the least use - I too, like that deployable blade without opening the tool - but it is limited - my "go to" tool is still the Fuse - light enought and yet fitted with enough tools to make it useful along with a SAK!

My skeletool gets EDC'd without fail, just cuz its so easy to clip on my pocket and pretty darn useful...Kinda wish it had a larger blade:thumbup:

Too funny, that's where my FS sits too, in the car:D

thanks for the advice i did have the cx and also edc'd it. i think ill go for that again. i have a wave but its a bit big for the pocket.
thanks

I have bend the pocket clip on my skeletool. I just remove it and I bend it back. If it braeks leatherman will send you another one. I have a total of 3 skeletools just in case I lose one. It is my favorite multi-tool.
