Years ago, I bought a jar of Skidmore's Leather Cream to use on my boots, made in Laramie WY. They sold it at the store where I usually bought work boots and cowboy boots and claimed it was one of the best. I just found a jar of it in the closet that I'd forgotten about and was thinking about using it on some of my leather knife sheaths, like a couple made by JRE. Anybody ever use this stuff on knife sheaths? If so, what do you think?

Also, does anyone know if this stuff goes bad? I open it up and it seems pretty fresh, still smells the same as it used to. Maybe a touch runnier though. It's been around for a number of years. Maybe I should buy a new jar rather than risk it??

Nobody has used this on knife sheaths!! I better steer clear of it then.

Back up for another look to see if anybody has experience with Skidmore's........

No experience with it here, but.....

Boot and shoe cremes tend to soften leather, ie shoes should be soft, sheaths do not.

I'd suggest you use it on the back of a sheath and see what happens, just in case. Or on a scrap piece of leather if you have it.

JRE often uses oil tanned leathers, so they may not react well to some conditioners. Oil tanned leathers dont need so much care because of their built in protections. If they get dry some neatsfoot oil will keep them in tip top shape. Add sparingly as oil will make your sheath into a noodle in no time.

I've been using Skidmore's on everthing leather, including sheaths. It's great great. Apply light coats and buff off. No need to fear. Stephen
