Winter is finally over, which means daylight and less storms! I decided to take a day off, and go on a long trip up to a frozen lake about 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) from my house. My plan was simple, bring some firewood, some chow, my bk10 and enjoy the day.
I asked my wife is she wanted to tag along, but she politely declined.
Prepping the skis for the trip
Snowfall has been heavy the last few weeks, so I could use the skis straight from my house. And one second it's sun...
the next second it's snow.
and sun again. These pics are all in chronological order.
There are almost no tracks, so I had to make my own. My destination is about 5 kilometers from this point, up into the mountains.
Wind made it a bit cold for a while, and it blew away the few tracks that I had. At this point trees became few and far between.
After about 2 hours on the trail, I reached the frozen lake. And I found a spot for the fire.
Fire is the single most motivating thing when I'm hiking in the winter time, especially when I'm soaking wet, and freezing cold. The Bk10 is a beast, and it slowly replaces all other knifes I got. It can do everything, it's reliable, hard working, not too heavy and takes a wicked edge.
Eating soup, drying socks and warming feet.
At least I didn't have to make new tracks back home.
It was a good day!
