As per a few requests here is a vid on the one stick fire drill. I think this is a good way to measure not only you firecraft skills, but your chosen cutting tool skills as well. If you try this go slow at first. It will be safer and help you to master your skills.

Awesome vid as always IAW !! Thanks for the info and sharing the knowledge !!

I always have one problem with doing that, and that's with making enough scrapings.. I try to make enough to fill my hand, but that winds up not being enough, so I wind up making enough to fill both hands..

Awesome IA...... great skill to know. Minimal resources and minimal tools... nice challange.

We should get an open skills challenge thread going.... encourage eachother to grow.

Great idea. I will get on that Bow and Drill soon. Thanks for the challenge.

thanks for the great video. What was the name of that knife you have? I couldn't quite catch it.

Great vid and a great skill to know. We did a similar challenge a couple of years ago here. We had to boil a cup of water using 1 piece of wood, knife, and fire steel. I think we timed it as well.

Thanks for the video bro!

Awesome! I'l incorporate parts of this into both my fire prep and knife handling presentations. Thanks.

Great video. I've realized recently that I *really* need to work on my fire starting skills. I pretty much suck at it right now.

Great idea! I'm gonna go out right now and find some suitable wood to try this with. It's been raining like crazy yesterday so I will have to keep my fingers crossed. I'm gonna choose a small hand axe as the cutting tool to accompany my ferro rod. Will post response vid in a few hours. I love these threads!

So far was able to do it with white oak, and sassafrass, from my woodpile..

I used my spec plus as my tool, but had a bit of trouble getting a spark at first because I was using my old "stubby" firesteel.. It's got about 3/8ths of an inch left but it worked still.. Just took a bit more work is all..:)

You guys think that's cool (which it is) then you'll love this.
Ia does a split wood fire (not one stick) in the rain... with a pocket knife!

IA, ever consider opening a school? I'd sign up, along with my 2 teenage sons. Great video.
