I'm blatantly stealing this idea from our Moderator, Rick Marchand who posted his first video on the how to dry your bic well over a year ago. I always thought that getting your bic wet was the fun part, but eventually you have to dry it :D :D

Unfortunately, Rick's original video is no longer up on Youtube because he changed his accounts. Anyhow the gist of this challenge is to immerse your bic lighter in water. I want to see a shot of your lighter fully underwater. Then I want you to use a piece of kit or clothing to dry it and get it to light.

According to Rick's video, you do not have to disassemble it and stuff. The moisture mainly collects on the little groves inside the sparker wheel. You can use a dry cloth and dry the wheel itself, or you can use a sharp object and scrape off the charred gunk from the wheel which is what holds the moisture.

Items to consider for dry cloth - look to your first aid kit, might have bandaids or a triangle bandage in a hopefully waterproof FAK. Use your socks, bandanna etc. Something that you would have in your kit.

Have fun getting your mini-bics wet.....Or for those of you with a full sized bic, you can use that just as well!

Shame on you if you don't carry an alternate fire-starting method.

I assume the quality will improve when it finishes processing. I have no idea how it didn't light on the first try:(

Clap clap clap clap!!! Very cool. Using the sparking mechanism on an empty lighter has been mentioned, but first time I have seen the reverse. A good tip to keep in mind.

Firesteel - "don't leave home without it".

Thanks!

Here we go, a more traditional approach....

Bic lighters rock. I will warm them up in my hands before use in cold weather and keep the lighter in an inside pocket. I have dropped Bics only to find them again after some time and these still worked. If the lighter is out of fuel very often the flint is still good and can be removed. Some people use them in Zippo lighters as they say the Bic flint is better. I never tried to light a fire using just the spark but it sounds like something to try.

Thats is pure genius. Really. Seeing simple solutions where nobody else sees them.

Yeah, must admit...Owen won that challenge:D Kudos Owen to show that "cheating" isn't really cheating when it comes to survival!
