A while back someone asked me if I used my BK2 for skinning a pig. To be honest, I haven't completely skinned any game animal with the '2, or a '9. But if I had to I could.
If the skin is to be discarded (as I mostly do with hogs and goats), it can be cut off in strips.
In my experience, it has been traditional to make the opening cuts down the legs and the belly by inserting the knife under the skin with the edge facing away from the carcass. Using a knife this way, it is easy to get a bit enthusiastic and pierce the abdomen and maybe an intestine or two. If possible, I prefer to keep the side of my blade flat against the carcass and cut away a strip of skin to make the opening cut. And that is what I would be inclined to do if I had to use a big Becker for the job.
Below is a link to a YouTube movie that includes a short segment showing me opening the belly skin on a pig. This movie was made by a young guy who lives on one of the blocks where I have been catching a few pigs (I think he is around 10 years old). The movie was made before I owned a '9.... thus I am carrying a Tramontina machete instead :foot:
I still have traps set on this particular block of land. Next time I get the 'pig' call, I intend to strap on the '9.
