Skinning with sebenza 21

Has anyone used a 21 to clean up squirrel or rabbit? How easily does the knife clean up? Does the blade hold up to bone?
 
When I have cleaned rabbit and squirrels, the knife got used for about 20 seconds and all the rest was done with hands. These animals are not particularly tough on edges. Depending on your method of dealing with the feet, you won't be cutting much bone.

I have not used a 21 for this, but I have used much lesser blades with equally thin grinds and not had issue. It depends a lot on how you use the knife though.

Regarding cleanup, I have had my 21 in far dirtier environments and cleanup is a non issue. Simply rinse in warm soapy water, dry it, stow it.

It's a great knife for most small tasks like this. For something like larger game, it could work, but I'd prefer a fixed blade for the ergos that no folder can offer.

I have not cleaned rabbits or squirrels but lots of pheasants with a small regular. Does a wonderful job. It is serrated so cutting the tendons on the legs is very easy. I picked up a Inoynoi a while back and it does all the work now on pheasant. As you can see Zoee loves the Inyoni also. :-) I am sure your 21 would do wonderful.



 
I never used a 21 on squirrel or rabbit, but did field dress and skin a whitetail deer. It held up fine, just as I would expect.
 
I helped skin a whitetail with my CRK 21. It worked out well. I just cleaned it with warm soapy water when we were done. No issues. It was still razor sharp and ready for more.
 
Not a 21, but my small regular has cleaned quite a few rabbits, squirrels, and doves.
 
I belive a CRK folder would work as well as any other folder for dressing game. As for cleanup, as others have said, the open back design just needs a rinsing under to clean.
 
Well I don't hunt much these days, but I have field dressed a bunch deer with a Benchmade mini AFCK and it cleaned up fine with no disassembly. Remember, the venerable Buck 110 has cleaned a plenty of game and it is not as easy to clean as a Sebenza. If you are worried about washing the lube out, it is easy to take the knife appart and relube it. AS we all know, Sebenza means "work" so use it. Cleanig game is a great way to honor a great knife.
 
I'm really thinking about taking it hunting Saturday. I was going to bring my buck 110 or spyderco military but I'm thinking more and more about the sebenza.

It would sure work better than that old Case Stockman that cleaned hundreds of fish, squirrels, frog legs, and Cotton Tails when I was a kid back in the 1950's. My Texas Grandmother (bless her heart) would would cook almost any game we brought home as long as we cleaned it outside. (No Jack Rabbits, please.)

That Stockman could get pretty nasty!
 
Clean/gut'd many animal with mine.
Easy clean up-Just washed it in the stream or flushed it with tap water.
The only real downside to the smooth Ti handles, is the fact they get VERY slippery with blood soaked hands.
Same thing goes for fish guts--

Agreed. If it's the only knife around for fish or game it will do the job. But my choice would be a fixed blade. With all the money I've spent on knives I'm amazed how much I'll use a Mora.

I ran out of the house without my Nyala in a rush to hunt this year and didn't realize it until I reached into my pack for it while standing over the Doe I shot- Oops !
I used my large 21 and I swear that I've never dressed a deer quicker or easier, the only knife that has even come close was the Nyala; they're both like zippers when cutting the ribs.

It was filthy with nothing around to clean it so I wrapped it in the set of surgical gloves that I wore while doing the cutting and threw it with the deer into the bed of the 350 ( under a locking cover ) and drive home. I retrieved it the next day and took it apart for a thorough cleaning. The knife came back to new with only one minor issue, a tiny pin prick of a stain just in front of the handle near the stud. It was raining like I was in a typhoon and the knife was coated in blood, rain, and guts for about 18 hours- all in all I'd call that absolutely acceptable though a bit funny as none of my other S30V or S35VN blades have ever stained. Since I'll never sell this one because it was made on my late Fathers birthday the year he died and was and in spirit is my eternal hunting buddy I think that the tiny dot will just help me remember the good times.


Not only do they hold up very well they work better than you'd expect a "fancy" knife to- but I've never considered a Sebenza fancy ;)
