I am looking for an ASH before Jerry pulls them from the BC website. The BC company store has Skinny ASH's in stock.
I was wanting to use one or the other for survival/camping/BOB knife. Is the balance onthe CG knife as good as the Skinny? Any other input would be appreciated!!! TIA... ;)

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.
I went with the CG ASH because of the thickness.
Heres mine.

I have the LE and thats been my favorite so far. I have all three and there's something about it which I find the most comfortable. The SE is also the best looking in my opinion but is the most expensive. I would say get one of the thin ones and try it. You could always trade it later for a thicker version which I am sure there are more of.

CG all the way .... Nothing like a THICK Busse blade.. get your money's worth in INFI :)

I have three ASH1s and my favorite is the LE. Next is the Skinny and CG comes in third.

If weight is a consideration at all, I would go Skinny.

I'd have to agree on the Skinny--if weight is any consideration at all. Fantastic balance, agile in the hand. Of course, the HOGASH is the best ASH chopper....:D

Yep, Skinny has the best balance. CG is way too heavy for regular camp carry in my opinion. The LE or SE is a nice compromise. The skinny won't chop as well--less weight, and less blade-heavy, but the skinny is a better all-around knife. If you don't plan on carrying it much, and chopping is a main activity, then go with the CG.

I think both would work well for for just about anything. As a survival heavy duty knife, regular ASH-1 will not let you down.

I have the skinny and the LE, the LE feels lighter in the hand. It have nicer balance for me. My skinny gets more use these days, tho'.
I think the skinny and the LE are more versatile blades than the CG for everyday use.

My favorite ASH is the LE. If that wasn't an option, I'd personally choose the CG over the Skinny because I carry a pocket knife for the light / fine cutting tasks anyway.

This might be a silly question but can anyone enlighten me on what a "BOB knife" is???

From the info on the forums, I suspect that the skinny and the LE are about the same total weight but the skinny feels heavier of the two because it's center of mass (or balance) is closer to the blade i.e. more blade heavy. Where as the LE has the center of mass closer to the handle which gives it a more neutral balanced hence, a lighter feel. With an equal total weight but more blade heavy the skinny should be a slightly better chopper than the LE.

I also suspect that the CG, even with a fairly neutral balance, should be better at chopping compared to the skinny and the LE due to overall weight being significantly heavier than the other two. To some this may be a disadvantage not because of chopping ability but due to extra weight to carry.

I don't actually have these knives so IKKYO (or anyone else), are you able to confirm this?

A BOB usually stands for "Bug Out Bag" (around here, anyway). So a BOB knife is usually one that you would trust in a jam and that you put in your BOB in case you ever have to "head for the hills".

I'd agree with your assessment of the Skinny, LE and CG. The LE starts with a thicker stock than the Skinny, which means more steel between the slabs, then a flat grind takes away slightly more steel from the blade than does the Skinny's partial convex grind. This would place the balance point a little further back on the LE.
