Here's the story. I was surfing the web the other day and stumbled on a Benchmade 630BK-501 (Gold handles, black blade, limited edition) and looking at the price its about half msrp. I'm thinking this is too good to be true, but why so cheap? Not really knowing what to do I bought it. Heck, I figured worst case I end up with a Skrimish. So I get it and it looks really good, better than I thought it would. It feels great and is a truly awesome blade.

So now the questions:
Since its a limited edition should I just wrap it up and put it in a drawer or should I carry it and use it?

Is it going to increase in value? (My only motivation to store it)

Thanks and have a good evening,

Congrats on getting yourself a nice knife. Since it is a production knife, I really don't think that it will go up in value.

It will go up in value, but not enough to justify not using it. Use it, if I had one, it would be in my pocket everyday!

What this guy said, I have owned/sold/traded enough productions and very few every accumulate enough value to not use them. Some do but this is a very nice knife which if you want to use, wont hurt ya. It probably wont skyrocket in value and even if you use it, you'll be happier in using it then you will be in letting it set in some drawer until you want to use it as trade or sell bait.

Yeah, I was going to say, haven't some of the Benchmade folders from just a year ago, that are no longer available, like doubled in value? I have a Gerber BMF that I never used, with box, and I've seen them selling for at least twice of what I paid for it.

The dyad is a really rare knife, the afck...well thats a hot one and I am glad i own one:D . But great point!

I still say use it if you dont plan on getting rid of it.

Here's mine with a few of his buddies.
benchmades

I carry it and use it (use, not abuse).

I had the same kinda situation with a Rat Trap I got a few months back, right after they stopped making them, mine being one of the last outa the swamp... I bought mine for $139, and one just sold for $180... So I've kept it NIB, just in case... It's sad really, cuz it's such a sweet blade, I just wish they were still making them, so I could get another for using... :)

I have one large Dyad I got NIB in feb '04 for $60 shipped. I used it for a year on a charter boat and commercial lobstering. soon after the price went up. :foot:

I use my AFCK from time to time as well but i can't sharpen D2 to save my life.:grumpy:

I learned a long time ago when I was collecting old Winchesters that, some things do increase in value, although in most case its not enough to alter my lifestyle. So I figure the enjoyment I get out of using it, far outways the small amount of money that most things appreciate. JMO

I have carried a mini skirmish with black handle and blue dots (635-503) off and on for the last year. I believe there were 250 of these made and 500 each of the blue handled and gold handled. They may go up a bit because it's a somewhat rare version of a popular model. However, the appreciation in financial value, no matter what it will be, will not likely exceed the enjoyment I've had from carrying the knife. Besides, even if it does increase in value, I might be able to sell my used knife for about the same as I paid new for it. I figure I win either way.

You guys are right. I know I would get much more enjoyment out of it if I were to carry it. I appreciate the input.

I have a 1/500 730CFHS that I've used the heck out of. More fun to use, than to look at, if you ask me. Like 338375 said. Even if it does go up in value, that difference won't be enough to buy a whole lot. I've made a pact with myself. I'll never own something I don't use. I've had to sell a couple that I couldn't stand to put to work. One was even voted "Best Investment Knife of the Year" by Blade magazine. (William Henry Pearl and Damascus Lancet)
