SKM and the balisongs that they carry have been mentioned in an earlier post, but I'm still curious about how well they manipulate/hold up. If I'm going to be spending money on a cheap knife, I'd rather have most of that money going toward sturdy construction, not a pretty face. Basically I want to know if this thing will end up in my "collection" pile, or on my hip.

Thanks

Personally I think that they are really nice looking knives but they arent very sturdy. They flip well with their ultra light weight but to me they only make good fruit knives.

Again...Nice in the Display...Shinola in the hand! Inserts are brittle and yes they are light. Do not flip mine but here that the pins blow!

My olivewood insert popped off on my first one. Mickey (the webmstr and I think sorta CEO) got me a new one free and shipped it to me. Even let me keep the old one. the pins I think are chrome plated brass but I ordered some pins once. I think from PV. I havent played with it too much (I carry it in the little pocket of my levi's and in my vest pocket when I wear a suit or tux. Good gentlemans knife (although that pearl inlayed one from an earlier post is MUCH nicer. My SKM brass one its pretty banged up but I love the non skeleton look with brass so I had to have it. its nice and heavy. If you dont mind replacing pins, its a great brass knife. Usually SKM is pretty accomodating so if you ask them to send you some extry factory pins, they might.

Nate, I think I'll stay away from the inserts; I think the plain brass look is slick. And about the pins... Is it any good just replacing them again and again? I used to do that, but it urked me that I had to do it over and over. Is there anyone out there that carries good sturdy replacement pins? Probably not I'm sure. Thanks.

I have received my 3 and 4" just 2 weeks ago, full brass handle: ok, they are not tactical or aggressive like a Jaguar, but are not sissy at all. I mean, even if lightweight, they can survive to manipulation, look as an elegant alternative to the usual skeletons' handle and the blade's shape permits a real razor grinding. I think they are ideal for everyday carry and do not look scary. Moreover the price is really affordable.
