how in the heck do you get skunk off a kabar? i dint get skunked, i was alittle far for him but this knife stinks to high heaven now, i think it it soaked in to the leather?

ive had a problem with something getting in to the cans and a skunky smell in the morning for a while now so tonight me and a neighbor was out back talking and i spotted the little sob. i got a good throw and stuck him threw the neck but i guess he spewed when i hit him.

That's why people stangely looked at you at the electronic store KaBar!!! :D The skunk smell!!! hahaha!

I was just kidding...

Seriously, I really don't have any idea how you could get rid of the skunk smell, especially if it's impregnated in the leather...

Man! I think the skunk smell is the most difficult one to get rid of!

My dog got skunked last week. Tomato juice does not work. What worked the best for me was a quart of hydrogen peroxide mixed with a 1/4 of a cup of baking soda and a teaspoon of liquid detergent. Not sure if it will damage the leather though.

Alright guys, the answer at least to skunked dogs is to go the drug store and buy every bottle of Masingail (SP?) Douch they have. Yes, the clerk is going to look at you really, really weird. But this stuff does work on skunked dogs.

The leather, though, I suspect, will simply take time for the skunk oil to evaporate. Heating it a bit (not baking in a 500 degree oven) may accelerate that process a bit.

You can just tell people that you smoke the good stuff. That may help

My neighbors' dog got skunked twice one summer. They used what theboy just recommended, mixed into a bucket of water. Washed the poor miserable mutt with it, and the smell was gone. Got to be careful not to get the mix in the dog's eyes. No problem with that, cleaning a knife :)

You might want to try just the hydrogen peroxide first and see if it doesn't get the job done.

didnt "mythbusters" do the skunk smell removal thing and found that the best thing was a commercially available spray?? or am i thinking wrong.........

Whooooh, SKUNK BUD!

Sorry, I was a teenager again for a minute there.....

My sig should be the only Deadhead who has never smoked herb :D .

Tomato juice may work but it may rust it. Try to buy another one through mail order but try tomato juice on the blade of the old one.

I like mail order because it is cheaper. A retail Kabar cost $60-$80. A mail oder one costs $40-$50.

im just going to air it out in the garage for a while and see what happins. if that dont work im not to worried about ruining it, ive got quite a few spairs.

im wondering if i rub a thick layer of wax waterproofer on it and light it so that the wax will soak in to the leather. it might even draw out the skunk smell if not mask it.

atleast it dosent smell as bad as it did yesterday. i threw the skunk in the creek. in about a week if the dogs aint draged it away im gona make me a hat. :D

My first choice for stuff like this is plain old 5% white vinager, but on leather I don't know if it would hurt it????

The most reliable way to get rid of the smell is to oxidize the organic sulfide that is responsible. As noted above, hydrogen peroxide will work. So will common household bleach.

I've never tried it, but I know more than one person who swears by it.

What do you have when you put all of them into one bag at the checkout lane?

A big douche-bag. ;)
